I can't believe this is happening...

Postby Icesk8tr » Fri Aug 29, 2014 4:40 pm

Seventh surgery coming up.
The doctor that did the colonoscopy said the cancer was new, which would have meant it grew really fast. My last CT was on July 28th and it was clean. My surgeon said....no, no no, it has been slowly growing for four years. It is at the original surgical site (anastomosis ) of the colon. Chemo has stopped it from getting bigger. This happens to 1% of patients with partial colons removed. So...this is good news that it did not spread. It stayed at the connection site. I'll have another six inches of colon removed. Surgery will be September 5th. It was just moved up from Sept. 30th. I'm a little un prepared mentally for it to be this soon. I do think it's better to get it over with. Almost four years ago to the day, school was about to start, and here we are again. The endoscopy shows I have an ulcer. Thank goodness it gave me nausea and pain. This would not have shown up on a CT scan. I will be in the hospital for five days.
I am very relieved this is not something that grew since my last CT scan. I know how fortunate I am to be able to have surgery. I do worry when I'm opened up, they will see too much cancer, and close me up. I think I've only had one surgery where there wasn't a surprise inside. Always more than they expected.

On a lighter note.... The Amazing Spiderman 2 movie came out on DVD. You can see my daughter in the graduation scene. She walks behind the two main characters carrying yellow flowers. She is also in a similar deleted scene on the DVD. My husband and I are in two group graduation scenes. We had to pause the movie and go in slow motion to see any of us. In other words...if you blinked in real time you would miss us!

Hugs,
Christine

It's good it's not something new and it did not spread. It sounds like just a few cells left over from the original tumor decided to slowly grow. I know you've had a few surprises during your surgeries, but I'm praying this will be a simple surgery for you. Open you up, chop out 6 inches, close you up, and a quick recovery. I'm picturing your tumor now, blanched from fear and awe, turning tail with the knowledge it's not going to hold on to your precious real estate!

You can bet I'll be swinging chickens for you on September 5th. Feathers will be flying! Lots of them!

Can't wait to check out your daughter in the Amazing Spiderman 2 DVD! :D

Hugs,
Julie

Christine, I'm so sorry you have to have another operation, butt I am very happy that they found the tumor! I know none of this is easy for you, but you display such a positive spirit and like so many others on here it just goes to show that the human spirit can be an amazing thing. I will be thinking of you next Friday, September 5. I do not have any chickens to swing, so instead I'll swing positive vibes your way and envision chicken feathers floating towards you.

Ok, now I HAVE to see Spiderman 2!

Oh Christine, so sorry this is happening to you! At least it sounds like it can be dealt with according to plan. I have tests the same day so will be thinking of you and sending good vibes your way. I love the visual of your tumor quaking in fear. It should because it's a goner! Hugs, XXOXO, Delinda

Christine,
Don't you just hate surprises? Perhaps this finding was the surprise and now on to a bit more luck.

Will be praying for you.

Oh dear, what a surprise! But I agree with the second doc: it has not spread, this is good. This is all! Surgery won't be fun, but hopefully it may be the last act of this bad plot, and an happy ending for the only movie actress of this board!!!
The very best wishes for this other step.
