Bad day got better, thanks to my CC family

Postby Delinda » Mon Aug 18, 2014 9:55 pm

First, thank you all for the many replies and excellent advise. Being so frustrated with my surgeon, and then my onc was too stressful by far. I called Seattle Cancer Care Alliance today and what a difference! At first they said first available appointment was 9/17. When I explained what's been happening, Dr Back's nurse called me back and I see him tomorrow at 3:00. How's that for fast action!! SCCA brags about their survival rates for all stages & doesn't write anyone off, they are all about curative intent.
As a side note, called my insurance company to check status of approval for shots to raise white cell count. Knew it was early but wanted to gently nudge so it was ready by Friday 9:00 chemo appointment. (Onc said "I'm faxing it now." at 4:30 on Friday, 8/15.) My insurance co had nothing from him; called his office & at 2:00 today they called back to say, "Your's is the very next one we'll send." Makes you wonder who you can believe. I'm keeping my cool because the transition to SCCA may take a little while. May need to get chemo & shot here once more. But then I'm outta there!! Can't wait. Thanks again for all your support. I love you guys. XXOXO, Delinda

Glad you were able to get in so quickly and hope they got the form submitted today. It sounds like the sooner you get established with the new onc, the better things will be.

God bless ~

Thanks for the encouragement guys. I just got a call that my shots (neulasta) have been approved by my insurance company. We're on a roll!

Delinda
It's good that the insurance approved the Neulasta. MSK bills Medicare over $7000 per Neulasta shot. I nearly fainted when I saw that on the bill.

I am sooo sorry for bad language  Butt I think you knew I was pissed. Nothing better than a new start on things, and don't be afraid to change again, I haven't, after I fired my first onc. Oncology is a business, and I'm sure you only deal with business' you trust. At $8,000.00 a treatment guaranteed by the insurance, you really do hold the upper hand. Lackadaisical employees abound in every employment position, and getting respect is your right. When you hold the purse-strings, you can affect all things.

Too true Michael! We are customers in a business where they make darn good money. We have a right to expect prompt, courteous service with a smile. (Don't apologize for the language. I was touched by the outrage on my behalf that so many folks wrote.) I am one of the department managers at a retirement/skilled nursing community & drill my staff on this constantly. And if they don't display what I call "a loving heart" they don't last long. I feel so empowered by this forum. Hubby told me he was so proud of me at appointment with new onc. Said, "You were so smart, informed, organized, strong & positive." I would not be able to do this without all of you. Hugs! XXOXO, Delinda

On your husbands behalf, the next time he messes up, PLEASE don't knock him over a tea kettle.

Maybe we need to start following this young lady's lead and make videos to send messages to DR's

I am a patient and I need to be heard- a 15 year old's perspective on being in the hospital
