Haven't been reading lately. Was so saddened to see your post. It's hard to make the shift from aggressively seeking/getting treatment to just letting things take their course. Give him some hugs and the words you want him to take with him on this leg of the journey and get some words for yourself and your kids to help you go through this and for afterward, whenever that comes.

I am so sorry to hear about Dick. He sounds so much like my Richard. He handled things so well, many didn't realize he was on chemo until it finally caught up with him and he weakened the last couple of months. We found, once he got weak, the chemo treatments were doing more harm than good. I wish we had stopped sooner. The chemo just weakened him so much in the end, he lost his strength to battle back.
I so agree with what Helen and the others who lost their loved ones said: have your daughter come home and spend as much time together. Tell him everything you want to say now. Express as much love to him as you can. But do have your daughter come home.
We were fortunate our sons were both home the last week before my husband died. We didn't know the end was coming until just the last few days. My son tells me now that he is so glad he didn't go to work, and he stayed by his dad overnight, all night, the day before he died. He said those hours were so important to him and he carries those memories with him now that his dad is gone. Please make sure your daughter has those memories and not regrets instead.

Kathleen, Dick and I were dx'd at the same time and I've kept up with his great adventures and your family for the last 5 1/2 years. I always was so hopeful that a new treatment would rid his body of all cancer and he'd live many many fun filled years. I'm sorry it's turned out this way but I wanted you to know what an inspiration he has been to so many.

Praying for comfort, painless days and lovely visits with friends and family. I'm also thankful that Dick is a Christian so you know you'll all be together in heaven some day.
