OK, Kids. Come out of the closet. What do you guys do?

Postby Bev G » Wed Jul 23, 2014 3:48 pm

Anyone who is willing to say, and of course you certainly don't have to, what do/did you do in your work life? Trying to think through getting our incredible COLON CLUB FIRST ANNUAL BARBECUE together, which I am hoping the awesome PAULA DEEN will help sponsor. I think we'll need some expertise in public relations/publicity, probably legal, fundraising, organization, kissing-up (:-) )---stuff like that. I've always known we have many, many creative and brilliant people on this board, but don't know what other than a very few do "in real life".

Anyone feel like sharing? Anyone who hasn't checked in on the idea in general feel like doing so?

Love to all,

Bev

well, I'm printing and folding a 72 page booklet for a Kentucky bottle convention, and will stitch and complete that book tomorrow. I'd kind of like to go to that, as there is a guest speaker called Mr. Bourbon, by his tradespeople. Whoops have to save my vacation for something cancer related, I'm sure :x

Well, I am a mom to 5 kids (1 infant girl has passed...) and keep busy extending advice that no one wants and picking up after people (when I have the energy). Always wanted to be a stay-at-home-mom and I am/was.

I have been a sewing machine mechanic all of my life (since I was 13 ,now 64) One of my friends commented one day that I must be brilliant at public relations not to be killed or at least severely maimed by an angry lady whose sewing machine I had not been able to ressurrect. He said you are too fat to out run them so you must have the gift of the gab...it is a pity I live in Australia. I would dearly love to meet some of the wonderful people I have met on cancer forums. I have a wonderful new machine! I t can gather 6 pockets of book material, put a cover on it, and do some stitching(that's the 2 staples that hold it together)and it can run up to 9,000 books an hour, it takes 6 people to operate, but I only have 2. The ladies I am currently working with, have resigned themselves to the proverbial sailor's language  I will trade vocations at any given moment

I am the director of financial analysis for an early stage clinical research organization and have held various finance and accounting positions in that space for the past 14 years.

I am also a board member for the local boys & girls club (I was until recently their treasurer, webmaster, took their newsletter program and converted it to an e-news letter and nominally served as a baseball coach - I handled scorekepper duties and smacked some heads when the kids got out of line on the bench during games). I stepped back from a large chunk of those responsibilities since diagnosis, but I still handle the e-newsletter and serve on the board.

If you decide you want to hold this event in the suburban Philadelphia area, I can obtain the Club's hall for a very nominal fee.

For most of my post-collegiate life I was a technician at a special environments research facility (think SCUBA diving, deserts, arctic, high altitudes, etc). We tested the limits of human performance as well as equipment and programs to enhance that performance in those special environments. One heck of a fun job. Alas, a combination of funding shortfalls and politics lead to the closure of that lab entirely.

Now I work for the School of Medicine as a "Laboratory Equipment Systems Designer." We service medical laboratory equipment and create unique technical and engineering solutions to support research at the School.
