Anyone every have the anti-nausea drug Kytril?

Postby raym » Wed Jul 23, 2014 2:46 pm

I am planning on being involved in a clinical trial starting in mid-august. One of the anti-nausea drugs used as part of the IV infusion is Kytril (granisetron). Just curious what side effects, if any you experienced.

Hi Ray,

Just wanted to wish you all the very best for your clinical trial.

Sorry, but I have no experience with granisetron but just wondering if it from the same family as ondansetron (Zofran).

Though now I have a duh moment. I should have searched the board first! And actually I guess I did as I did a google search on Kytril versus Zofran and posts came up from this board. I know there was a member poo-pooing the public aspect, but it works for me.

I had kytril, it worked fine for me. No crazy side effects. If I recall, I got it in IV form when i got my chemo...then had Zofran pills for at home.

Ray,

This drug:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Granisetron

is similar to Zofran:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ondansetron

and acts in the same manner. One thing that has been shown to be a problem with Zofran is QT prolongation. This may be why they are choosing to use Kytril rather than Zofran. Given your previous cardiac issue thought to be from 5-FU/Xeloda it might be a good idea to use a drug without known QT prolongation. Otherwise I expect the side effects from this drug to be very similar to your experience with Zofran if you have used it in the past.

Regards,

Used it a lot a couple of years ago and always had it in IV form before chemo. It is VERY constipating. Have some Colace or such on hand :)

Kytril has been a standard drug for me prior to chemo. No side effects I know of. IV only - not something I use at home.

I took Kytril during Chemo in pill form. 5 pills at start of chemo and then pills twice a day for the next 2 days. Did not have any problem with them at all.
