I have a friend who is a millionaire and when he found out about my diagnosis, met me for lunch and gave me $1500 and then asked me to set up a paypal so he would have an easier way to send me money. He's been sending me enough to cover all my bills since October so I haven't had to work during treatment. Who does that? What a crazy life I've had.

I think it's the nicest thing anyone has ever done for me. I literally would Have gotten evicted and lost my car if it wasn't for him since I was in pretty bad shape for months after surgery. Chemo has been brutal, too. Oh, and he got me an iPad, too for chemo infusions but I use it all time.

So many people have done nice things for me. Probably one of the nicest if not the nicest is how supportive my husbands employer was when I was first diagnosed. We were living in Thailand at the time. Within 36 hours of being diagnosed, they had us on a plane in first class on the way back to the states. First class simply for my comfort. They were very generous in time off for my husband. He was off 8 weeks while I had surgery in the states. They also paid for my second colon resection in Thailand. We had to pay our medical expenses up front and then be reimbursed from our insurance. A surgery was a big chunk of change to pay up front and they paid it for us. My husbands boss was simply amazing to us.

I've had so many nice things done for me that it's humbling. One of the first things that came to mind is the card from Malaysia with $100 for my baby granddaughter in it that I got this week. Another was peanut butter cookies...about 2 years ago, I was on a chemo that messed with my taste buds. I thought, "Man! I would love a homemade peanut butter cookie!" I think I only mentioned this to my DH. Two days later, one of our dear friends shows up with a plate of homemade peanut butter cookies! DH swears he didn't say anything to anybody about what I had said. That's when I learned that God not only will supply our needs, He can and will supply some of our wants. BTW, the cookies were awesome!

God bless ~

So many... Many gifts of money from my wealthy client-friends (I'm not wealthy!)... A couple of bucket list trips with dear friends... U2 concert tickets, first row loge... Upcoming Fidelio opera... Walking my dog for me after surgery... Meals... Understanding when I've had to cancel plans... Most recently, a gift box full of treats from a very special New Zealand angel and a phone call from one of our CC friends...

Thanks for this thread, turns my heart to gratitude...

Probably the nicest, most useful, and least unexpected thing was a care package from The Pampered Patient that a former co-worker sent me. She and I had only kept in touch off and on over the last few years and this very timely gift arrived right in the middle of chemo.

Then there were so many other small things...the incredible flowers my company sent me in the hospital, the calls from the HR woman to see how I was doing, a friend's changing a flat tire on my car when I just didn't have the energy.

Ok...I've had lots of amazing things. Oneof the funniest was my two friends. They are a Bohemian couple who the first dayof my surgery showed up with Floral Queen Size sheets and they brought them for me to see and then took them home and put them on my bed. ( Sheets must lift spirits) I also got Cow Milk Shampoo for thick Hair?

A 10 year old boy bicycle roade a roast beef over from a neighbor I hardley knew. A friend brought $100 worth of cold cuts and rolls.
Every little thing amazed me.

One of my best friends called and told me that she was worried about me living on my own as I went through chemo. She moved in with me for the duration, ensuring that I was fed and had company. When my family arrived to visit, she would move back out so that there was room for them. When my chemo finished, she moved out so that I would have space and privacy.

I can't begin say how much it meant to just have someone near to watch over me. Her biggest accomplishment was reminding me that I was cancer free and could move on.

This is when I call it the gift of Cancer as the kindness of people comes through like never before. My blessings are my family and huge support group of friends and strangers.
I never would have known how kind people could be until Cancer came into my life. I have since made it my daily work to be kind and thoughtful, do RAKs and live a good life. All of which are a gift.
