when we got the results.....kind of funny

Postby mymom » Wed Jun 11, 2014 7:36 pm

So as some of you know Dr. K is quick which I like. She doesn't make it through the door and she tells you if she sees something or not. So before the results mom gets an exam on table by the nurse. She said she has a stitch in her side if she slouches. The nurse examines her and then tells her to remain sitting on the exam table and Dr. K will be in soon. She goes out and our room was right by the 'middle area' where the computers are and all of the nurses and Dr. K congregate. I hear the nurse telling Dr. K about the stitch. Dr. K grabs moms chart and the 6 ft walk from the middle area to our doorway was an eternity because It was like slow motion with her coming towards us. She gets in the doorway and says she sees nothing and in the same breath says 'and I don't care about your stitch'. I guess you have to know her or be there because after we left we were laughing so hard. But of course we managed to give her a quick hug before she flew out of the room. But it definitely was funny. But she did crack a bit of a smile and you can tell she was happy to deliver the news.

I've had docs like and can see how it would strike your funny bone, especially when your adrenaline is up in anticipation of what the scans might say.

God bless ~

I can so see all of that. I am always peering out the door looking for and listening to the team before Dr. K comes in.
The whole team loves giving good news :D
Wait, you got hugs?

last time and this time I was so overwhelmed with good news I asked if I can give her a hug and before she could answer I gave her one. Quick one. She definitely is a bit uncomfortable with it but its the Italian in me. I thanked her and said mom would not be doing this well or even here if it wasn't for her. Then mom hugged her. it just happened. I may try to refrain though in future.

I think I would get along well with Dr. K. Though I'm someone who goes out of my way to be friendly and accessible, I was raised with an aunt who reminds me a lot of Dr. K. I thank God every day that my aunt was involved in my rearing since my mom was such a softie, I would have entered adult life unprepared for the to-the-point and direct people like Dr. K. :D

After having a Gastro TERRIFY me...... I found out that the stitch in the side is from adhesions or scar tissue and is the number one complaint with adhesions.

Interesting Diane. Thank you. I know that I still get pain here and there at my C-section scar. I have had three and I know I have a lot of scar tissue. That very well can be scar tissue with my mom since she has had two liver resections.

I am sure people who do not know Dr.K may not understand the humor. My husband and I had quite a laugh and could so picture the scenario! On one visit she asked me if my colostomy was permanent or temporary. I said "It's permanent. You can't call me an asshole because I don't have one!" She was dumbfounded, looked at my husband and asked him if I really said that and he just shook his head yes. She paused and actually laughed! I wish I had a picture.

Wouldn't a doctor like her be great on Grey's Anatomy?
