Very successful LAR: no staples, no temp ileo and . . .

Postby boswind » Sun May 11, 2014 4:54 pm

Hi All,

Thank you all for your replies to my previous messages and encouragement.

I successfully had my LAR done on Wed Mar 7 and left hospital for home at 10am Sun Mar 11. That is, I had stayed in a hospital bed for less than 4 full-days after the surgery.

The surgery was very successful: no staples on my belly and no temp ileo. Most importantly, my surgeon told me the pre-operative radiation and chemo therapies were very effective in suppressing the tumor.

About my previous message concerning possibility of a temp ileo, after I waked up at 3pm, I did not bother searching for a stoma or asking. I thought my doctor made the best decision for me and I would accept either way without complaining. Therefore, I did not know the fact that I did not have a temp ileo until 6pm when my surgeon came to see me.

In about two weeks my surgeon will meet me to talk about the pathology report. He said my tumor was well differentiable, so the report about his part should be good.

Congratulations on your surgery, Be sure to do lots of walking, it really does speed the healing process.

I had surgery last month to repair a large hernia on my stoma and I too only got stitches this time. 10 yrs ago, I was stapled together. I'm still doing my walking, just no power walking (a bummer for me).

Good luck with your upcoming visit with the surgeon.
