Strange, perhaps idiotic question

Postby splodge2001 » Fri Apr 18, 2014 3:41 pm

I was wondering if anyone ever felt better post cure than they did before DX?

I was thinking about my father who was recently Dx'd with Stage II CC. I guess he was anaemic for a while pre DX and increasingly tired. Assuming all goes well and there is no recurrence, would it be possible for him to feel better than he did just before DX?

Wishful thinking?

It's realistic if anemy was caused by the tumor, it often happens...

No idiotic questions. I was anemic before the colon was resected. I still am. Perhaps my anemia wasn't caused by the colon tumor. No harm in hoping his was.

I will agree "There are no idiotic questions." and I felt much better after treatment than before diagnoses. I was anemic and had internal infections since the tumor had perforated the colon. It took them awhile to figure out what was wrong with me because of my age an no family history of colon cancer. when all these issues were addressed things were much better. So yes it is possible your father will feel better after treatment than before.

Sure, I feel 100% better now after treatment than I did before my diagnosis. Before treatment I was anemic as well as in lots of pain. My surgery took care of the pain, and 3 sessions of IV iron took care of the anemia.

Lots of things can be going wrong pre-diagnosis. Treatment, exercise and a new diet make some people look and feel quite healthy even when they are stage IV.
watchful, active researcher and caregiver for stage IVb/c CC. surgeries 4/10 sigmoid etc & 5/11 para-aortic LN cluster; 8 yrs immuno-Chemo for mCRC; now no chemo
most of 2010 Life Extension recommendations and possibilities + more, some (much) higher, peaking ~2011-12, taper chemo to almost nothing mid 2018, IV C-->2021. Now supplements

My father is saying his digestion is better now than before DX. I got him on curcumin, grape seed extract, green juice and quercetin so it might have helped calm the inflammation he had before - he had a very inflamed duodenum and suffered bad reflux.

Honestly, during treatment life was better. Everyone I saw once I was on treatment were amazed and impressed with how well I looked for some one under going chemo. Prior to diagnosis I was exhausted, fatigued, loosing to much weight, constantly in the bathroom, all while ploughing a head with life - caring for kids, running the household, working 5 days a week. Since treatment is over I am much healthier and have a better life balance. I am still managing my condition so keeping a toilet nearby is important but otherwise I am happier and healthier than prior to diagnosis.

I felt very tired and depressed before diagnosis. Within a week of starting the chemorad I was feeling so much more cheerful and energetic. It did get more difficult later on but the treatment really made me feel so much better, the cancer seemed to be taking all my energy and once the tumour stopped growing I recovered my energy.

I never felt unwell prior to diagnosis but a few weeks into radiation I felt fantastic - obviously a big tumour had been having an effect and once it started shrinking I felt better. But after the whole chemo, surgery shebang Im sorry to say I still feel pretty cruddy three years later.

Sounds encouraging. You almost never hear of people feeling better post cancer!

I did feel better 6 weeks post-op than before surgery because I was so anaemic. Chemo took a lot of that energy away :(
