Chemo before surgery

Postby ASTEPHENS33 » Fri Apr 04, 2014 8:50 am

Can people tell me their recent experience with chemo before surgery? A friend got diagnosed with metastasis to the liver and they are recommending Xeloda, Oxiliplatin, and Avastin for three weeks before the surgery. Your thoughts?

I did the same regimen for three months prior to my surgery. I think that's kind of standard.

Hi there,

Sorry to hear about your friends diagnosis.

What you have just mentioned is a standard first line treatment. I was on that treatment after I had reoccurrence.

They are most likely aiming to at least try shrunk the liver tumour(s) or even try reduce the amount of disease. Chemo before surgery is very common.

Your friend should prepare themselves as oxaliplatin has some Nasty side effects,
But everyone reacts differently.

Wishing your friend all the best!

FYI ... FWIW....
I had the whole 28 Tx neoadjuvant chemoradiation (with Xeloda) prior to my LAR surgery.

I believe that "nuking" the beast in any way, shape and form ... PRIOR to surgery, which helps the SurgOncs get their job done is ......
A Good Thing !
