Nosebleeds?

Postby DBF » Sun Jan 26, 2014 6:55 pm

I had to make an ER trip today for a platelet check due to the nosebleeds I've been getting. Results were low, but not low enough to warrant a transfusion, thank goodness. My oncologist thinks the nosebleeds are related to the drop in platelets. I'm also on Lovenox (a blood thinner), which may be contributing to the problem. I've already had to postpone two treatments because my platelets have been under 60 thousand.

Has anyone else had an issue with nosebleeds? If so has your platelet count been low?

Thanks, everyone!

You don't mention Avastin in your signature, but I get nosebleeds quite often when I am on Avastin. For me, they don't necessarily correlate with platelets.

Yes, I have many nosebleeds even when off Avastin and Oxi though my count has never been below 98. Strangely enough they have mostly stopped now that I am off 5fu for this y90 treatment.

I always had nosebleeds on FOLFOX, starting with treatment4 and beyond. It did not help that it was winter and the air was very dry. I never missed a treatment for platelets but I did for neutrophils until I started using Neupogen. They all stopped once I was off FOLFOX. My onc felt it was a 5FU side effect.

I've had the nosebleeds but they've just been annoying. Nothing like what you are experiencing.

I've had moderate nose bleeds. Platelets are always in the 30's and I get Avastin. I can usually control them unless I blow my nose. That's a no no.
Male Age 53. Dx CC with numerous liver mets 6/23/12. Colon res 6/24/12. Started folfox 7/24/12. Added avastin 8/27/12. CT 12/27/12 still showing shrink. Took 17 rounds of FOLFOX. Then 5-FU + Avastin. Switched to Irinotecan for 1 yr. CEA rose to >400. Switched to Vectibix 2/18/15. CEA decreasing. Scans show some growth in liver mets. Lung Mets stable to shrinking.

Bloody boogers. Thought I was the only one with that affliction.
