always cold

Postby Leighann Sturgin » Sat Jan 25, 2014 7:27 pm

Is anyone else ALWAYS cold? I'm wondering if I could have permanent nerve damage from chemo or something. I wasn't like this before cancer.

I sleep with multiple blankets, gloves, and 3 layers of hurts including 2 sweatshirts. I am also freezing all day long with multiple layers and I am almost 2 years out from chemo. I went to my oncologist yesterday for my 3 month check up and he just looks like oh well, there's a small percentage that are permanent. I guess I am one of them but I have been to all of my girls sporting events and school events so I just say it is what it is.
Good luck to you,
Allen

I am always cold too. A few times during chemo break I would get hot flashes.
I was told that after having many chemotherapy's makes me cold all the time.
My perfect zone 70 degrees.

I'm cold much of the time. I blame it on my ongoing chemo, but I hope it's not permanent. Living in a very cold place where we've been seeing record cold, might have something to do with it, as well. In bed, in the shower and driving with the heat turned up are about the only times I know I'll be warm. Wish I had my sister's sauna.

I think that oxaliplatin has permanently screwed with my internal thermostat. I have such a terrible time getting warm now, even when it is not below freezing outside. The nurses laugh at me because I bring my own electric blanket to treatment. Infusion rooms are always cold, and a regular blanket no longer does anything for me.
On the very rare occasions when I do get hot -- let's say Florida in late July -- I have trouble cooling back down. I can remember being at Disney and buying a frozen fruit bar when I felt overheated. Even the ice did not feel cold in my mouth.
Guess I'm part reptile now.

I've always had a 'low body temperature' of 96.4 to 97.9. Anything over that is high for me. HOWEVER, since chemo if I lay down to take a nap, right before I fall asleep I feel like I'm on a block of ice. No matter how many blankets or socks, I'm freezing but only for a couple of minutes and then it returns to normal.

I looked it up online and read that as everyone falls asleep, their core temperature drops so when someone already has a low body temp drifts off to sleep, their body gets extra cold. Even someone with a normal temp can shiver as they fall asleep.

I cannot tolerate summer heat, tho! Go figure!

I can't stand heat either.
It has to be in my range of 70 to 76degrees.
At 78degrees I sweat.

My husband has had this problem too! He is beyond cold!! One onc told us that it could be from past oxi use. His iron is low and he is now on a script for that. The iron seems to have helped along with putting some weight back on.

I'm always cold also. Have an electric blanket on the couch so I can wrap in it to watch TV. I'm in an area where we are having record cold and wind chills. The biggest problem is keeping my feet warm. :-)

Always cold my entire life but found out my thyroid was low and started taking levothyroxide pills and it does help but still cold with cold temps up north - 10 tonight around house I wear the cheaper starter version of under armour long sleeve compression shirt and tights you can get at walmart then sweats and it works well . refuse to pay under armour prices .
if Im still cold throw on second layer of sweats as needed and if really bad get under quilt and electric blanket and call it a day. I work outside occasionally in this severe cold so wear 3 layers and its tolerable but not great good for about 30 minutes then I have to get in and warm up. biggest problem is keeping hands and feet warm.
