What you do when you chose to consume irritants

Postby -Sophie- » Tue Nov 19, 2013 5:54 am

Ok so I know that avoiding irritants is the wisest choice but some times you just have to live life and deal with consequences. Does any one have techniques for reducing the side effects.

I have my annual work awards night coming up. It's a serious frock up event with awesome food, drink and dancing. I want to enjoy myself and have a few drinks but it sends me running to the bathroom so often it's no point. I am just hoping some one might have a trick for getting past it for a night of fun.

I second the Immodium and also I might suggest some type of carbo (rice, potatoes) before to absorb the alcohol so it doesn't go through. :?

When I know I'm going to consume something that causes the runs, I take Imodium or Lomotil beforehand. I also do this for insurance when I absolutely HAVE to be OK for awhile! I agree with others that recommend that you do a test run at home first to see how much is needed to prevent problems. I like Lomotil because it lasts longer and doesn't cause me trouble the next day, but there are those for whom Imodium is the drug that works best. Everyone's different. At least experimenting might be fun! :D

Although my BMs are very variable in density and frequency, I've never nailed down specific triggers or individual "irritants", including alcohol.

For me, Immodium works well too, so if I REALLY don't want to need to go, I also take two prophylactically

I'd go with Lomotil. Immodium is absolutely useless for me..at least so far. We are all different.

When I go to these types of events I do it with an empty stomach (ie no lunch) and then I consume no food at the event either. I take 3 Lomotil every day, so for me that is no guarantee.

Also, I would skip cocktails and stick to wine. I think it's much easier on the stomach/digestive tract.
