Dad's onc said he could have a beer a day, but nixed the idea of any more.

I don't know if the onc would have given the same advice to a younger man, dad was in his eventies when diagnosed.
Dad, stage IV CC, mets to liver, 2007-2008

died 1/2018 at age 88, from Parkinson's and respiratory infection
(Parkinson's triggered by one of his cancer surgeries and/or chemo)

Well, I went out for lunch today and had a nice cold Stella. After getting home from walking Round in 85+ temps I was thirsty - and as this is Labor Day weekend I had a nice cold mike's cranberry lemonade...
Hmmm, and yesterday I was chuffed to find Strongbow cider in the nice cold beer section of the grocery store.....
I Normally dont partake in all these beverages ~ (yeah right) but as its labor day weekend i thought why not!
My onc has no probs with having a bevvy or two, and I usually go for something that tastes good and is good for you (sort of) - red wine
Cheers!

Years ago, and I don't know if they do it still, in the UK after you had delivered a baby, they gave you a "Mackeson" every evening. Supposedly Mackeson is loaded with the good stuff and was 'good for the blood' as it contains iron. I've tried to see if you can get it here in the States, but I have never found it.

Also, Guiness' slogan was/is 'Guiness is good for you'.....
So there ya go - 2 beers that do a body good

You can get Mackeson here some places. It's a really sweet stout right? And cider is sounding awfully good to me right about now...

I retained myself to beer at age 40, but I sure could use a good old gin and tonic, or a B&B.

Never had a Great White but would love to correct that. And Gin and Tonic - possibly my all time favorite. I favor the dryer gins - really a Beefeater man and 2 limes. Oh lord that sounds good but I think I will stick to beer and cider for the time being ha.

Your signature doesn't show any liver involvement, but also doesn't give your current labs for liver function. So I don't think any of us can give you advice beyond your oncologist.

I can tell you what mine tells me. I have no organ involvement - only bones and nodes. The only time my enzymes were off which are usually attributed to the liver, it was actually my bone mets causing the whacky numbers. My organs are solid. My oncologist says one alcoholic beverage per day for me (for women) or two per day for men - if there is no liver involvement and all lab work is good, and you are not on any medications that stress the liver. Personally I am usually so sick on chemo that I couldn't handle it, but once I get about to the point of the next cycle, I have sometimes had a glass of wine or a beer. Last night I had a few sips of my husband's beer. I knew I couldn't handle drinking one, but wanted a little. Often I do that - I just drink about 1/10 to 1/2 of one of his beers. When I am on a chemo break, I've had a little more than that. No daily drinking, but I have broken the one per day rule when I have a chemo break. (I'm not talking a week off, but off until the next progression.)

My oncologist had said I could have a drink here and there - just keep it in moderation. I don't like beer, but I do love my wine. I just found that I had no taste for alcohol while I was on chemo. I had a groupon for wine tastings at 5 vineyards in Virginia. I had planned to use it and take my husband on an outing for his birthday. I was so nauseous that the voucher sat for another couple of months until chemo was over. I say, if you and your liver can handle it, go for it!

Let's all have a beer together (or other cocktail) I'm having one now. Cheers.

My wife had another idea in mind, I think it was eating, with perhaps a glass of milk. I am probably the only one around here, that buys whole milk to make Kraft macaroni and cheese, by the pint. And it goes bad before we use it again

Ha -Justin you in fact are not. I only use whole milk to cook with and do indeed buy it for making Kraft Mac and Cheese. Since I don't drink it otherwise, it goes bad. Lately I have been buying the Velveeta Mac and cheese to make it easier ha ha. Oh this would so get my foodie card revoked if I posted this on FB.

Kenny - Going to grab some food and then will likely join you.

Voxx, I'm glad I won't be drinking alone. I have to have my port replaced tomorrow morning followed by an oxi and avastin infusion on Friday, so I may have two beers today.
