Colorectal interview research project--southern New England

Postby Cslodden » Mon Jun 10, 2013 1:14 pm

Hi all,

My name is Caitlin Slodden and I am writing my doctoral dissertation on the experience of living with colorectal cancer for both patients and caregivers (stage 2, 3, 4 and survivors). Very little scholarship has examined the psychosocial aspects of colorectal cancer specifically so this work will help future patients and family members. All interviews are confidential and I can come to you--whatever is most convenient. Interviews take about an hour or so. If interested, I am happy to send more information and/or references. Email is cslodden@brandeis.edu

Thanks,
Caitlin

Caitlin interviewed me yesterday. It was a great experience and I feel anything we can do to help with our disease may help others following in our foot steps. Please consider contacting Caitlin :)

Hi Momma,

You convinced me to contact Caitlin, she actually lives about 20 minutes from me so it will be very convenient for her. Looking forward to it, she will interview me on Monday.

Thanks, Pearl

I emailed Caitlin yesterday and she plans to interview my husband and I separately over the phone. She is in the Boston area. We are in North Carolina. Remember it can be the caregiver and or the individual with cancer that she interviews. I think it would be great if she got responses from a variety of age groups as it is about the social and emotional aspects of the illness.
She is a Medical sociologist and hopes to present preliminary findings at the colon cancer alliance conference in Miami in October.
I look forward to chatting with her and hope our contributions can be helpful to others!

I completed my interview with Caitlin over the phone tonight. It went well and I think was interesting for me as the caregiver to reflect back on the past year. Her intent is to focus on the emotional and social aspects of colon cancer and she still needs a lot more interviews to complete her work. Remember it can be a caregiver or the individual with colon cancer that is interviewed.

I had my interview with Caitlin in person as we live about 20 minutes apart. She is an amazing, thoughtful, compassionate woman and we talked for over 2 hours!! She is interviewing my husband tomorrow as a caregiver and a professional as my husband is a Wound, Ostomy, Continence Nurse (WOCN). I think her work is extremely important, when we are diagnosed, there are so many challenges that we meet and are unprepared for, not just physical, but emotional, financial, etc and the doctors and nurses are not able to help.

Please contact Caitlin if you are interested in furthering her work, it was really nice to talk to someone that was not emotionally involved with me and has so much insight into what I went through. Thanks, Pearl

Pearl/cashmere,
Thanks for bumping this up again. Caitlin reported it has been difficult to find participants with all the privacy laws etc associated with healthcare. She is very thankful for the support we have given her and needs at least 20 more interviews.

Wonder if this could be done by email? With 2 teens and a toddler I don't really have a free hour but could do it in chunks by email.
