During neoadjuvant treatment, I couldn't even touch a room temperature counter without getting zapped. I remember turning off the air conditioner in the car because it was making my eyeballs tingle! I talked my Onc into giving me the extra infusions, and it made a huge difference in the cold sensitivity. I wonder how they define "helping". It was my experience that the CA/MA infusions did make a difference.

sdev wrote:Yeah, I received both the calcium and magnesium for almost the entire time. Just finished chemo 2 weeks ago and for the last 2 rounds they were out of the calcium but continued to give me just the magnesium. Now it makes sense, a national shortage, wow! I definitely have the neuropathy going on in hands and feet....drives me crazy! I hope it goes away soon and completely.
SoConfused wrote:I hope this is not discouraging news, but I have found my neuropathy worsening since completing chemo. This may be partially due to my ongoing maintenance regimen of Xeloda (2000 mg/daily; every other week) and Avastin. My feet have been bothering me a lot --- finding it difficult to be on my feet for long and walking isn't as much fun as it once was. I had calcium & magnesium before each infusion and took gabapentin throughout my FOLFOX treatment and thereafter until I figured it was no longer working. I also have fibromyalgia which only further intensifies my pain. I have found a combination of Topomax and Cymbalta works best, so far, for alleviating my symptoms.
Good luck.

With Xeloda causing hand/foot syndrome I know of many patients that have their neuropathy get worse while on Xeloda. I tried Topomax and several others when I was dealing with severe RSD/CRPS. I couldn't tolerate any of those drugs - made me really spacey, yet jumpy at the same time. I'd be zoning out and unable to concentrate on anything, and then the phone would ring, or I'd catch a cat moving in my peripheral vision and I'd jump a mile and have my heart pounding out of my chest. Awful... Glad it does work for some people. Will you get a break from Xeloda at some point?
