O/T - Some exciting news/bad news - UPDATED with Pics!

Postby weisssoccermom » Thu May 09, 2013 12:23 pm

First the good news. When I was diagnosed almost 7 years ago, my main thought was I HAVE to live to see my youngest graduate from high school. I did that in 2009. Well, on Saturday, my 'baby', Erik, graduates from college :D The whole family is flying down to NM to see him walk (although he really didn't want to!). I wish he was coming home to work but....he'll be staying down there as he has a fantastic job and in this economy, you don't pass up something like that.

Now to the bad news. Last July, my furbaby, Lesley, was diagnosed with salivary gland cancer ....located by the parotid glad (by the ear). Surgery was done and the vet onc warned my onc that while this cancer was rare, it would likely recur. Good news...these type of cancers that originate near the parotid (as opposed to the mandibular salivary glands) 'tend' to recur LOCALLY. Well, last night while I was outside, I thought Lesley 'might' have a lump and yep, she did. Took both girls to the vets for boarding and Mike just called. The mass is basically right next to her previous surgery. He took a needle biopsy and will know the results tomorrow. Hoping for something benign but being realistic....I'm going on the assumption that it's cancer again. :( Surgery is scheduled for first thing Monday morning. PLEASE keep my furbaby/family in your prayers. I just LOVE her so so so much! She will come through this again.
Hugs to all,
Jaynee

Proud mom here. Erik graduated with honors (you can't really see the white honor cord but it is there), was a member of the student govt (that's what the other white sash is for) and finished a 5 year program in 4 (that's what the 'button' is for - only 25% of all students finish the enginering/technology programs in 4 years). Thank you Eric (brownbagger) for posting the pics for me!

Happy that your milestones have been surpassed and you have enjoyed these wonderful events. Prayers for the baby, pets in distress hurt as much as children in distress. Enjoy the good stuff and come home and get tough again.

Just an update. It's Saturday evening and I am officially DONE with putting kiddos through college :D My youngest graduated this morning under some bright blue skies and somewhat balmy weather. After a total nightmare with my son, Jon's flight from Philly, he made it in time to see the degrees conferred (he was lucky and missed all the speeches :) ). This was a wonderful day and to have all three of my boys together - what more could a mom ask for?? I wish my daughter had been able to share in this special day but I know she was here in spirit. Wonderful end to a fantastic weekend. When I figure out how to post a pic (or when I get home, I'll send it to BB and ask him to post it), I will put a picture up of my baby in his cap & gown. This mama is beaming!

Hi Jaynee,

Congratulations on your son's graduation! I am so happy for you. Can't wait to see a picture or two. :D

Also, so sorry to hear about Lesley. :( I truly hope that she will be ok. I've seen a picture of your dogs and they look just lovely.

Have a wonderful Mother's Day!
