Pooped my pants at work-- again

Postby helen098 » Fri Apr 12, 2013 3:55 pm

I am sitting at my desk this morning talking to a colleague having a nice conversation
All of a sudden I know it’s bad, no warning….i walk very fast/almost run to the bathroom
I make almost made it…had to throw out my underwear but the pants were ok
In my mad dash I forget my emergency bag…..so I clean up as best I can and go commando back to my desk. After a few minutes I revisit the bathroom
Incidents like these make me angry /sad and pissed off…..i know I am lucky to be alive but I wish I was a little luckier with my underwear
 :D

Have a hopefully incident free weekend my colon club friends

Prior to my second surgery and colostomy, I had a few work incidents. It usually involved finding one bathroom full and walking a ways (down stairs too) to another bathroom. Each time it was just underwear damage though. I also used to have a bucket, trash bags and toilet paper, wipes in my car cause sometimes ya just gotta go. Those days are over, though with the bag there is still an accident potential.

Maybe it's time to consider wearing something like Depends. At least you would save your outerwear from soiling.

This post serves to remind me of one of the good reasons for having a colostomy. And, yeah, sometimes, I need the reminder. I'm so sorry that this has happened twice to you. Maybe if the company's small, you can have an extra set of supplies in the restroom and that way have something in there in case you have to make another dash for it.
God bless ~

In 2008 I had a right hemi-colectomy. Never really had any issues other than some loose stools until now. Recently I have been having some issues with not feeling the need to use the bathroom but when I go in to urinate I notice that I have a little poop in my underwear. I seem to have the leakage for a day or two and then things return to normal. I also seem to have more gas that I can not control sometimes. Almost like my muscles in my rectum have loosened up. Anyone else experience this?

I love that I can post this and no one is grossed out or makes me feel uncomfortable unlike in the real world

My problem is that I can go months without an incident so I am not ready to wear depends 24/7yet
I have tried food journals and it appears my colon just goes crazy sometimes….we think it’s a combination of the shortened colon from the resection and the slight (well the colon doc says the muscle feels strong from his side but my lack of underwear seems to disagree with him) loss of muscle control causes the occasional accidents.
I do wear them when I feel I may have a problem..after scan, colonoscopies, during my period, when my stomach does not feel just right, thought other than the cat scan when I needed extra depends I have never had an accident wearing them.
My colon doc has suggested I try to firm up my bowel movements with Metamucil, I haven’t tried that hard, I plan to start again….need to figure out the right amount taken at the right time….so much work

When it happens I just feel disgusted with myself and the side effects of the cancer, embarrassed and dirty (kind of like when my dog has an accident on the rug…..got to have more sympathy for him)

There is no place to keep anything in our bathroom at work. We are moving in the fall and I think I should ask for a desk near the bathroom. :D Thanks for listening and making me feel less gross
