Belly tap...6 liters gone

Postby KarMel » Sat Feb 16, 2013 12:16 pm

And ten lbs, too.

I feel loads better. The only question now is how long till it reaccumulates.

In the meantime, , I have stopped chemo. It's not working, so no reason to continue the misery. I am sending info to the NIH to see if I qualify for an immunotherapy trial. Hope to know in a week or two.

have you seen pete43lostatsea's postings about Removab?

I know he had to come to Germany to get treated like that, but could it be a possibility?

Removab is also available in some clinical trials here in the States...it's called Catumaxomab. Not sure where or what the criteria are, but it might be worth looking into. AA

KarMel -so happy to hear you feel better!
They tried Remobav/Catumaxomab in Indiana at the Northern Indiana Cancer Research Consortium (South Bend), in case you want to explore that path. It was for ascites from ovarian cancer, and they got good results http://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/study/NCT00326885

Crikey, Karmel, that's like 1.5 gallons of fluid! You must feel so much better! Did you know you had all that fluid built up?

I'm crossing fingers and sending up prayers that you get a good trial!

Isn't it nice to have all that fluid gone. I had to be drained about 5 times when I had the infection after HIPEC. Don't know what the cause is for your fluid. The first two procedures were done within just a few days, then it went to a few weeks. It took a long time for the fluid not to show up on a scan, but as long as it was below a certain level I didn't need more drainage. But I do remember how stretched out my belly was with all that fluid - certainly couldn't bend at the waist - there was no waist.

I can't imagine what a relief it must have been to get rid of that much fluid. Sorry to hear that the chemo is not working and hoping you find a trial that will work for you.

I, too, am sending up prayers so that a trial is available and it will go as smoothly as possible with the coordination.

Glad the draining helped you feel better not to mention the weight loss!! Jiminy Crickets!
Sorry to hear the chemo's not working. Hopefully, the immunotherapy trail will be an option.

KarMel - I am so very sorry to hear you are back in the hospital. They filled me with antibiotics and I got a drain tube. In all my surgeries and procedures the accumulation of fluid was the only time I really prayed to die. But, I did come through it...and you can too. Know that it is very common to have to be drained a few times (at least that is what my Radiologist told me) - came back 80%, not 100% - so take that as a positive sign. Hope they figure it out soon.
