bathing suits with colostomy

Postby shellfry » Fri Feb 15, 2013 4:26 pm

Going to the beach in April, and this will be the first time with a colostomy. My new normal I think will require a new suit. I've been searching the internet for a tankini style bathing suit, but I'm looking a tankini's for a long torso, because obviously I want it as long as possible. Also no too tight, but that just may be a size issue.
Does anyone know of any good websites for women's bathing suits like this? Or is there something else I should try?
any advice would be helpful

I think lands end makes really nice swimsuits with a variety of tankini styles. You can mix and match the top and bottom. I would try there. If you buy online, you can return to a sears store if they sell lands end. That is what I did. The local sears store never has a good size selection so I ordered a bunch of bathing suit tops and bottoms and returned what didn't work or fit to sears.

This top looks pretty promising. Looks like it is fairly loose and long and attached ties will help keep things in place.

This is not a bathing suit but looks a good accessory to go along with one. I was going to buy for my husband but he had his

PLEASE - PLEASE see the Tubyou or You Tube (not sure name). There is a young women who decided she did nothing wrong so she made Duct Tape designs for her ostomy bag. The'y are FANTASTIC and she wears a small 2 piece. (of course if I had her shape, would wear one 2). :D
She loves feed back and new designs for those bags (or caps). Most people think it is some type of cell phone devive.... Please see it and smile - we did nothing wrong---so enjoy!

I think this is the YouTube video referenced above. It looks like it would be an easy way to decorate a pouch if you're not a crafter or sew-er.

Try ostomy secrets. They have a swim bottom that is black and you can match a separate top to it from any retail store. The bottoms are pricey but they are made for people with ostomies. I am in the same dilemma.

What about a lululemon tank top with a matching bottom suit? The tops come in lots of styles with built in bras and looser bottoms that are long. Get it dark so it doens't show through when wet. And get a bright bottom at a bikini store to catch the eye on the bottom versus the top.

And remember no one else can see it! We have lots of people that swim at my pool with them.

Before buying the stealth belt my dh wore a black back brace. So you could wear a high waisted 2 piece with the back belt( if you're a 2 piece person) or for added security wear back brace or stealth belt under tanki ini. Some insurance companies pay for the stealth belt.

Either way hope you have fun

Well, I am a bikini person but I'm now 46 so I did just accept that a two piece was out. I bought myself an ordinary one piece, and I don't felt the bag showed at all. Of course it needs to be kept empty but I felt perfectly comfortable,
However when I went boogie boarding in the surf I did wear a wetsuit for security.

I gado change my bag after swimming,it did ruin the seal each time. Twice in chlorinated water I discovered after the face tht the bg came right off but pressure of the water kept contents inside the bag, thank goodness.

I enjoyed my bikini again this summer but I my just be getting too old, lol
