Julie, you are one amazing woman! So strong and despite it all you still have a sense of humor. I guess that's what sees us through sometimes, huh? Praying and hoping for a smooth and uneventful recovery from now on. All the best to you, Julie.

You get any snow down there in NYC, Julie. We got buried over the past few days. I'm going to have to take out a second mortgage to pay my plow guy.

No accumulation here, but it was pretty cool watching it from my apartment on the 32nd floor. Every updraft from the "canyons" made the snow go up in swirls -- like living in a snow globe.

Bet you're glad you have all that wood put away. It's 30 degrees this morning with a 28 mph wind so it feels like 16. The cold air cuts like a knife through my resected lung. Did you have any trouble breathing cold air after your surgery?

No, but my surgery was in March, and it was about 80 degrees. Just kept getting warmer after that.

My first lung surgery was in October of 2010, and I skied all winter and don't recall any issues with breathing cold air. However, anything unusual you breathe--smoke, dust, cold air, etc.--is going to hurt for the first few weeks. But, as you know, if you keep up with the daily walks, you begin to see almost daily progress. I also found that taking a painkiller before you do your walk isn't a bad idea if you can avoid getting run over. You're not slowed down as much by pain and as long as you don't overdo it, you'll get a better workout. JME.

Julie - O-M-G!!!!!!!!!! I can't believe what you've been through! And through it all you have maintained your sense of humor - you just rock. I can't even begin to imagine having to deal with all that slime - AND that they sent you home that way! Yikes! I'm so glad you went back and hopefully it will heal properly now.

No snow here in the PNW, or at least where we live. We can see snow on the mountains just north and east of us and that's just the way I like it. We might even have a dry week after what seems like months of rain (probably only a month or two).

Sending warm thoughts your way - so glad you are home and recovering.

In response to the 'tube with a bulb on the end' question, my dh just had one of those after his colon resection on Dec. 14th. The 'technical name' is a Jackson-Pratt drain (aka JP drain), but most of the hospital staff called it the 'grenade'. Once emptied, they would squeeze it as flat as possible and fold it in half before putting the plug back in to create suction to pull the fluid out. If it got full, it really looked like a hand grenade and would likely 'explode' the plug out if not emptied!

Julie, we're new here and we think you're awesome!! My dh has kept a positive attitude and sense of humor throughout his experience and it definitely helps. Also helped me be able to deal with all the stress and the waiting for tests/surgery and results. I hate waiting!!

{{{HUGS}}} and wishes for an uneventful recovery from now on!
