A consultation with, well, everyone! - UPDATE

Postby Phuong » Fri Dec 07, 2012 5:07 am

Met with my onc today and it looks like the cancer is back. Surgeon suggested we cut but with chemo first to shrink it. Onc and I had discussed targeted chemo using spheres, but the tumor board came back with the opinion that it probably wouldn't help. It came back within 3 months after folfox and was back again while I was on folfiri. I'm scheduled for a consultation with my radiation oncologist to discuss cyberknife. Depending on results we will go with the wait and see approach or pursue surgery afterwards. In the meanwhile, onc and surgeon will consult with each other, surgeon will present me to the UCSF tumor board, and my last CT scan a couple of weeks ago is being presented to a symposium at Stanford for cyberknife specialists. I'll be scheduling a PET/CT scan in the next few weeks to better define the location and to see if anything else lights up. So there we are folks. More wait and see, but there are still options to be explored.

Phuong,

I wish there were more straightforward answers! What the heck with this sneaky disease. I wish you wouldn't have to do chemo again but if it makes the mets easier to get to, that is the best thing. I hope you tolerated chemo well before and 4-6 rounds won't be too hard on you. I know you have great docs and getting on the tumor board at UCSF and Stanford is of the best minds.

Hope it makes what you should do clear. Hope your daughter and hubby are hanging in there as calmly as you are. I know you can beat this, but I truly wish you didn't have to deal with it again.

My very best to you.
