Hello,
I had an ovarian met that was found during my HIPEC surgery in May. The ovary was tested during surgery, when it came back positive, it and my fallopian tube were removed. Then the hot chemo bath was administered. I originally had peritoneal implants when dx, during my emergency colon resection. My oncology surgeon told me that chemo was my best bang for my buck and HIPEC wasn't a hood idea because stats said my prognosis was 22 months and why would I want to possibly have a declined quality of life during that. Well, I did chemo weekly for 9 months and when my liver tumor showed great response my oncologist sent me to another surgeon, who then referred me to a HIPEC surgeon who is excellent. I had to do some soul searching to determine I'd this was the right course for me but so far so good. Also, the original peritoneal nets were all scar tissue when they went in, only place with cancer was the ovary. Here I am at 20 + months and my quality of life on xeloda as maintenance chemo and getting my physical strength back is far far better than chemo. My Dr has been very aggressive and none of my treatments have been by the book. I'm thankful for my drs treating me. Please, let me know if you have any questions. I go tomorrow to have my blood after 3 months on xeloda...I'm anxious but confident.
Janklo, I am so sorry about Lauren, her story and your advice and confidence have gotten me where I am today, I wish there was something I could do.
