Hi Jenny-
It is hard to say without knowing the rest of your history, but if the pelvic seeding isn't too extensive and you do not have other organ involvement (like liver/lung) then I would probably ask for a consult with a HIPEC surgeon.

Let us know how the onc appointment goes.

My daughter had ovarian mets - last December, she had attempted hipec but they found both ovaries contained colon cancer. So they were removed. I hope you are on an estrogen patch, that's one thing she had to do. She did one you switch out weekly and also an anti depressant with hormones.

She still had cancer in her peritoneal area - she continued on chemo for that. It worked pretty well until she went off it for another hipec attempt and never really reCovered. But I think hipec could be a good option for you!

Hello,

I had an ovarian met that was found during my HIPEC surgery in May. The ovary was tested during surgery, when it came back positive, it and my fallopian tube were removed. Then the hot chemo bath was administered. I originally had peritoneal implants when dx, during my emergency colon resection. My oncology surgeon told me that chemo was my best bang for my buck and HIPEC wasn't a hood idea because stats said my prognosis was 22 months and why would I want to possibly have a declined quality of life during that. Well, I did chemo weekly for 9 months and when my liver tumor showed great response my oncologist sent me to another surgeon, who then referred me to a HIPEC surgeon who is excellent. I had to do some soul searching to determine I'd this was the right course for me but so far so good. Also, the original peritoneal nets were all scar tissue when they went in, only place with cancer was the ovary. Here I am at 20 + months and my quality of life on xeloda as maintenance chemo and getting my physical strength back is far far better than chemo. My Dr has been very aggressive and none of my treatments have been by the book. I'm thankful for my drs treating me. Please, let me know if you have any questions. I go tomorrow to have my blood after 3 months on xeloda...I'm anxious but confident.

Janklo, I am so sorry about Lauren, her story and your advice and confidence have gotten me where I am today, I wish there was something I could do.

What chemo did u have for 9 months? Was it the chemo during that time that killed the p mets?

Hi..I had metases to my right ovary and had both ovaries removed. Between the time the ovarian mass was first detected and the time I had the surgery to remove the ovaries (less than 2 weeks), the affected ovary had ruptured. The fluid in the area tested negative for cancer. But I was very worried. I learned about HIPEC on this board, had 2 consults, and had HIPEC a month after my ovaries were removed. Please pm me if I can help in any way. Good luck!

I'm confused, I was just told that I have a met to my overy. If they remove them do you still recommend hipec when there are no mets in the pet.

Hi Jenny,

I had ovarian mets. I had the right ovary removed during my liver resection 5 years ago. The left ovary was left alone because it looked good. 6 months later it was the size of a grapefruit.

I then had HIPEC surgery. They removed all traces of cancer and scraped the walls of my peritoneal cavity. That area has been clean ever since.

Best to you,

Jen

I had mets to both ovaries and they were removed. Did not need HIPEC. Since I am only 30, my gynecologist who is aware of my cancer diagnosis has placed me on HRT to avoid early onset of osteoperosis. I am currently on anti-depressants since the lost of my baby-making abilities really did a number on my mental health.

It a good idea to ask them to take it all so cancer can't spread to the other female areas.

I had them. My ovaries had pretty big tumors on them, which ruptured, and I was bleeding internally (not to mention experiencing the worst pain I had ever felt in my life!). I had to have an emergency hysterectomy. It was quite an ordeal. At first they thought I had stage I ovarian cancer. I wasn't diagnosed with colon cancer for another month. My colon was then resected. At the time, I also had a para-aortic lymph node light up.

I have been taking estrogen ever since, to prevent bone loss. The rest has been a mixed bag.
