A last ride with Blue the convertible

Postby janklo » Tue Nov 20, 2012 8:11 pm

Today was Lauren's funeral. It was a sunny, beautiful 65 degree day in Nebraska! She was buried wearing her Burberry skirt, with her University of Nebraska hoodie and her giant teddy bear 'Best Bear' alongside for eternity, in a metallic Barbie pink casket. We had my sister-in-law drive Lauren's beloved Ford Thunderbird convertible right behind the hearse to the cemetery (with the top down). Some of her best guy buddies came from Dallas to be pallbearers. It was just a lovely classy day, just what she would have planned if she had more time. Below is hopefully a link to Blue parked in front of the church.

We have a lot of donations for the scholarship fund and her friends are going to do an auction fundraiser too in a couple weeks for donations. A very fitting tribute!

Hi Laurettas. We're a Coke family, but I wanted you to know that when I went to the grocery store yesterday, I bought Pepsi and toasted one to Lauren last night. I think the weather was celebrating her life today, and I know your family has some precious memories that sustain you through this horrible time. Lauren was very lucky to have such a loving family.

Yes Frits, thanks for your Pepsi tribute! Lauren would have enjoyed that.

I must admit I have the worst time paying attention at church. Usually I use that time to think of things I need to do. But during the funeral today I actually spent some time thinking about the Colon Club and how much strength I take from everyone here. It was exactly four weeks ago tonight that we were flying to Dallas when we got that awful call about Lauren having pneumonia. I would never have made it through the events of the last four weeks without all of your support. Just knowing all of you were thinking about us really helped me because I know you truly understand in a way no one else can. Thank you, all my "invisible friends". I love you guys!

Awww, that brought tears to my eyes! So glad everyone here was a big help to you. I have enjoyed "getting to know you" and your beautiful and strong daughter, Lauren. It's so hard to believe that took place 4 weeks ago!! Oh my gosh, that flew by. So, so sorry about everything you have been through. Wish there would have been more I could have done. God bless you. Stick around and be our friend from time to time, don't go too far as I would really miss you. Although, I wouldn't blame you if you wanted to take a break from this place :) Love to you and and big hug!

Thanks for sharing Lauren's journey with us...right down to the last ride with Blue. The care for your wonderful daughter has been inspirational, with grace and dignity. I didn't realize you we're in Nebraska. I'm in Northeast Kansas, and it was an absolute glorious day here yesterday, so it sounds it was much the same just a bit north. We know in this country we can get just about any weather this time of year, including lots of snow, so it's so nice that Lauren was blessed with a spectacular day. I think about Lauren and your family a lot, and you're in my prayers. God Bless you. Hugs, Dan

Lets all do do the this same thing tomorrow with our families at the thanksgiving table. We all need to have a pepsi for Laura. A toast that she is cancer free in heaven and one day her and her famly will meet again in paradice. :)
