In Dallas at the ICU 10/23 updated at the bottom

Postby janklo » Tue Oct 23, 2012 11:56 pm

We made it to Dallas. Lauren seems a bit better. She spiked a 103 fever when this happened but it's back down to normal.

I have to say thanks to you all for your messages. We flew here and in the airport I sat and held my phone and read all your messages over and over and they gave me such strength! You guys are amazing!

A bit more info. For the past week the plan has been to get Lauren stable and get her back to nebraska to rest and recover. But they could never stop the nausea. Did a new set of cts last night. Just this morning the oncologist called me to say, unfortunately, since October 2nd and the last set of scans, the cancer has come back. Something (possibly the cancer, maybe adhesions) is partially obstructing her bowel. She has ascites. A retro peritoneal lymph node glowed at 3 cm. All new since October 2.

So they put in an ng tube and were considering surgery for the obstruction when she vomited and aspirated. I think it's fecal matter she is vomiting. I think this might be the beginning of the end. I just hope we can get her off the vent and bring her home for a bit more time.

I'm sleeping here in her ICU room. Will update again soon. I know some of you will be online at midnight keeping me company.

I am so sorry for Lauren, you and the family. I am glad the fever broke, but so dang mad at the cancer. It just keeps on going doesn't it? Glad you made it safely to Dallas. I will be thinking of you and Lauren and I hope things turn around for her.

Healing Love
© Jocelyn S. Ongdico

Oh Great God, You alone can ease
The pounding of my troubled heart
Only with You I am at peace
For You make all my fears depart

Comfort me with Your blazing love
And pacify my worried soul
Your grace of love from up above
Is healing love that makes me whole

Cast away all my doubts and fears
And lift my downcast spirit Lord
Please let my heart be brought to cheer
By Your comforting love and Word

My body and mind may be frail
But your healing love keeps me strong
Your love will never ever fail
So to me, nothing will go wrong

Oh my, my heart just sank reading this. I am so sorry for this turn of events. I just came on to respond to your earlier post and saw this. All of you will be in my thoughts and prayers. I hope you can get her off the vent, too. The NG tube should help immensely with the vomiting if it is due to an obstruction. I am just so, so sorry. I don't know what to say. Bless your heart. Hoping to hear some better news in the morning and hope you get some rest and Lauren gets some relief.

Sandy

I'm awake with you and praying for Lauren. Try to rest and let us keep the stream of prayers going...gently floating around her in the room.

I was truly hoping for a much simpler answer for the nausea... That is just terrible. I will continue to send my strongest thoughts to Lauren, you and your family. I hope she pulls through this latest challenge. Although you suspect the worst I hope that is not the case.

Hello,

I thought of Lauren the second I woke up. I hope you were able to get some rest, precious Mom. I know they are keeping her quite sedated on the vent. It is horrifying as a mom to be with a child in the ICU, with a son or daughter on a ventilator. So surreal. I've been there, and was so sure it was a nightmare. I will continue to pray for Lauren and you, and your family today. I hope they can rapidly help her condition to improve so you can get her home.

Love and hugs to you,

Bev

I am so sorry that Lauren is having these troubles :( My heart just breaks for her!! It's bad when it's anyone, but she is so young :( Gosh, I just hate cancer more and more every single day. I hope she pulls through this and gets better asap so she can come home with you. You are a wonderful mom and I just know it makes such a world of difference for her with you being there. She is on my mind everyday and I'm constantly praying for her and I will continue to do so. Be sure to take care of yourself and get some rest when you can and eat. Write us when you can...I'll be watching for an update. Big Hug for you!!!!
