Happy birthday!! As live2jett posted on my FB page on my birthday, "Every day we're alive is a birthday!" and I wholeheartedly agree!
God bless ~

I got my diagnosis about a week before my 44th birthday ( conologscopy on 2/27, dx on 3/2, birthday 3/6 of this year). I actually had to drink barium for my CT scan with the cupcakes my daughters baked for me! It is my daughter's birthday on oct. 29th (she will be 11) and she wants a party. I am having my surgery on Nov 5th...I told her that I should be the one having a big birthday next year. I just want to get back to a normal life :) I will willingly accept getting older, even if I need a permanent ostomy (we are not sure yet). I just want to be done with this adventure!!!
2/27/12 dx rectal cancer (stage III)
3/6/12 44th B-day
3/19/12 Oxi & 5-FU (8 rounds)

11/5/12 LAR surgery temp ileo
1/20/13 4 rounds Xeloda
5/13 multiple liver mets
6/4/13 HAI pump at Sloan
KRAS wild & BRAF mutation found :(

Debzak, that sounds like me! Just 22 months ago! Birthday on 12/14, colonoscopy on 12/15 (happy birthday! here's a brand new camera! now, shove it up your (beep!)), then resection on 12/16. Then, 2011 was NOT normal, but we're in NormalsVille now. You'll get there! After all my radiation, my colostomy is permanent, but it doesn't even slow me down or hasn't altered my life in any way (ok, I'm the one who posted about carrying around M9 in my pocket, so maybe in a little way :) ).

It's funny how I used to make a big deal about NOT making a big deal about birthdays! Now, I'm digging the "every day you're alive is a birthday" quote, and I remind myself of that every morning. So, birthdays are a B~I~G deal, and I'm so happy you're celebrating!

Belated happy birthday. May you have many, many more.
Jeff
Went in for surgery for a cyst on my bladder, and they found colon cancer growing on the outside of the colon. Got to have two surgeries at the same time! Stage 3, one node involved.
