I should know the answer but really not sure

Postby mymom » Wed Sep 05, 2012 8:01 pm

As most of you know, my husband had a colonoscopy last October after my urging. He had tons of blood in toilet, anemic, migraines, etc. They found a huge polyp. Biospyied the whole thing...no cancer. Not even displasia. They had to put clips in him after removing the polyp to stop bleeding. As soon as they removed it the blood stopped and no more migraines. They said come back in a year. We have one scheduled for him October 29 for his annual follow up. This all said, the past month he has had bad diarrhea and blood again (bright blood) and hemmroids. Not to be gross but he made me look at his butt and they are hanging out. So my question is....could someone have colon cancer but no tumor/mass. They only found that one polyp last year.

This was my thought as well. I know my husband's hemorrhoids did that when he was in his 20s. A hemorrhoidectomy took care of it.
God bless ~

He is seeing our gastrointestinologist. She is very good but no, she is not a colorectal surgeon. Sorry if I am not understanding but wouldnt she do the colonoscopy and if she finds something then he goes to a colorectal surgeon? Or a colorectal would be able to take care of more so maybe he would not need another colonoscopy like if they had to remove a bunch of hemroids?

I am going to call the doc and see if we can move the appt to sooner.

My first colonoscopy was done by a GI doc. He referred me to a colorectal surgeon for futher treatment and scopes. My husband combined his scope with hemmoroid treatment. One prep, one anesthesia...much better deal IMHO.

Kathy R
Dx Feb 2010 4 cm tumor, just inside rectum
EUS stated T3 tumor
2nd opinion, need better path
Mar 2010 transanal surgery. Surgery by board certified CRS found tumor only in lining
6 exams of surg site, 3 PET, 3 scopes laterNED.
Scope in Mar2015, clean colon
Next scope/test in 3 years

Ok. So made hubby appt with GI next Wednesday. She will assess and determine if he does scope with her or colorectal surgeon. This way its one stop shopping. I don't know what's going on with him but this is plan now. He says I am making it more complicated. I told him I don't care and said this is the route we are taking.
