very end......

Postby las » Mon Jul 23, 2012 4:59 pm

I am so devestated, Kevin had a follow up appointment today to see about starting chemo tomorrow and was told that doing chemo was not a good idea, they gave him 2wks to 2 months to live....   They said it is his choice, but if he does chemo he could be down and never recover from it. His liver enzyems are up and I don't know the number as I was not there, his mother and brother took him today as I didn't think we would hear this news, I thought we would hear ok chemo tomorrow. The oncologist we saw at the other MD Anderson location last week was ok with chemo this week, so i don't know what to think. I have not spoken to Kevin yet, as I am still at work. My work doesn't have a FMLA policy as it is a small company only 20 of us here. They have in the policy 1 wk off for the death of a spouse. I have so much to think about as I have to be able to support myself and its hard to find a job in the mortgage industry anyway. His mother said she would pay my bills for awhile, but I can't rely on that. It took me a year to find this job.

We don't even have the option for clinicals as any chemo will not be good they told us.

I am so upset beyond belief.....

Lisa, I am so very sorry to hear your news. I cannot even begin to understand your anguish and sadness. It must have been devastating to hear the news second hand and while you were at work. You will know in your heart what you need to do. Give yourself sometime to let this all sink in, gather all the facts and your decision will be made easier. My heart hurts for you both. I am here if you need to "talk", always. My prayers and love are with you. I wish there was a way to make this all go away.

I'm so sorry. It makes it so much harder trying to balance your time with Kevin and keeping a roof over your head in the process. My heart goes out to you.

Lisa, I am so very sorry to hear this news. I feel that we have been traveling this path together and know that we are one small half-step behind you.

I have the same fears as you about being secure financially since the economy has robbed us of the stability of our retirement. I have never worked so have no idea what I will do to supplement our income--which is no longer enough to live on.

Can you talk with the doctor at MD Anderson and get his or her opinion about what your local onc says? It is just so frustrating that colon cancer patients have so few options.

I hope that Kevin can regain strength for awhile so that you can enjoy the time that you have together. This DAMN CANCER! It just makes me so angry sometimes.

Lisa,
What very difficult news you all got today. I am so sorry that they say Kevin does not have any more chemo options. I am also sorry that you have to continue to work. I pray that you can get a break and spend a lot of time with Kevin.
