Flaxseeds (linseed)

I must have tried every soluble fibre product on the market and they just do not work for me. Psyllium in any form gives me awful, very offensive gas and accompanying discomfort with no discernable effect on creating bulky stools. Until I take more and more and then eventually, I just start to shart all day long

Benefibre - similar deal withotu gas and discomfort. Normafibe, better, but its like swallowing kitty litter and I havent been able to get enough of it down my gullet to have any noticeable effect.

I've been put on this low fodmap diet and am doing brilliantly with it, but my body STILL obviously needed more fibre. I am now on a daily dose of oatmeal (which does have a good effect on me) but need more. So very tentatively I've started adding ground flaxseed (tentatively because I am very sensitive to fibre, carbohydrates in general and that is the reason for the low fodmap diet and I didnt know how the flax would affect me).

Its a GREAT solution. It really produces a lot of fluff for a very small amount, lol. No gas, no pain, no belly distension but a lot bigger stools - which of course are easier to manage. That plus oats every day and my new mini enema routine = success.

Its not that I really WANT to talk about poo endlessly, but I know I trawled and trawled and trawled looking for help with my issues at every stage of my cancer journey. So if anyone else is having limited success with metamucil - try adding ground flaxseed (work up to a tablespoon or two a day). It has been really gentle yet effective for me. And you're adding valuable nutrients into your body rather than sweeping them on through with metamucil.

I even made pancakes by grinding my oats to make flour and adding LSA mix to it - get a bit over oatmeal EVERY morning.

Glad it works for you Jachut... and you're right: if it can help others, why not share?

Thanks Jachut, for this info. At seven weeks out I crave to hear what works from others so poo talk is welcome here.
I have wondered about flax. I have some success with psyllium but not enough so this is what I needed to hear.
I am more on the side of constipation so maybe what works for you may work for me. I plan to add to the reversal
update today when I know my internet access is better. I'm just curious, what type of syringe are you using for
your mini-enemas?

I have read some of your previous posts and am so glad you are finally finding something that works for you. It does
get old being totally fixated on pooping or not pooping every day. (every minute)

Flaxseed is also a GREAT vegetarian source of Omega 3's (anti-inflamatory).

I always add a tablespoon or so of ground flaxseed to our smoothies. I grind in in the blender (Vitamix) or a coffee grinder. Once it's ground, store it in the freezer because the oils go bad really quickly. It's a great source of Omega 3's.
