Porch Progress

Postby SkiFletch » Sat Jul 14, 2012 6:49 pm

Since many of you have asked, here is a progress update on my porches. Got the downstairs deck all ripped out, re-framed and fully installed. Ran into some fun there since the foundation is not square which required a lot of cute trim work for lack of a better term. You'd never know now if you look at it though, I did a good job on that. It even passed wife inspection :). Railings were a little tricky too but I got them sourced and installed.

Lately has been prep for raising the roof, literally. Had to cut the posts to height which was tricky with 6x6s 28 feet in the air. Got it done though with some help from my contractor father though :). Hung the double side hangar and built all the roof rafter triangles. Hung one just to make sure we measured right, which we did  8). We're good and pooped now after a full day in humid 90 plus heat. Leaving the rafters up on the deck there till Thursday when a buddy of mine is coming over to help me raise the rest of the rafters. Lock em all in and then it's roofing time. Plywood, ice shield, underlayment, join the two roof sections, shingles, voila. Sounds easy right?

NICE!!

I screwed up part of my new deck. I didn't line up the 3rd framed box with the other 2 at one end so one of the deck boards is raised about 1/4 in above the one next to it. I borrowed a power planer to lower part of the frame and bottom of the deck board, but then the planer stopped working. So I'm still not done. So much for me being a master carpenter. LOL

I like the look of your porch. VERY NICE indeed!!

I can see it already. He bench pressed that board, deadlifted that board, etc etc. :D
I'm just a dude who still can't believe he had a resection and went through chemo (currently 13 years NED). Is this real life?
