Done with last treatment

Postby limbo08816 » Thu May 17, 2012 11:40 am

I never formally introduced myself. But you all have been so helpful to me in more ways I can say. I just got my pump disconnected for the last time. Currently, I have mixed feelings. I am happy to be through with treatment, but I am still a little nervous about what the future holds. I have been told that the way I am feeling is normal.
I just want to thank you all for the help and support you give to your members. Even the ones who just lurk.
I will keep you all updated with my progress.
Take care!

Congratulations! And back to living life! I can totally relate to the anxiety, as I am sure many can. I am not through with treatment yet, but have a surge of anxiety and insecurity at the completion of each piece of my treatment. Best wishes for a long NED-free life!

Do you guys have a bell to ring at your cancer center when you start your last treatment? I'm curious how common this practice is. I'm looking forward to ringing it off the wall. Good luck to you guys who have finished!

My oncologist told me that finishing treatment can be one of the hardest phases. No one is telling you what to do, what tests to take, what meds you need, what "the plan" is...there is no plan. No meds. Not many tests. Just time. He said that for all the great things they do (clinics, hospitals etc...) where they still tend to fail us is in the after care.

It will get easier,,,so I have been told. You will go from thinking about it a hundred times a day...to 50 times a day, to 10 times a day...not sure from there...I seem to be stuck at the 10 times a day

What I try to do, no matter if it is a good day, or a bad day...is to be grateful. And I have so much to be grateful for.

Remember back at the beginning of all this....someone probably told you to breathe, take it a day at a time, an hour at a time, a minute at a time, and that it would slowly get easier as you discovered your new normal. Well, the same rules apply here.

Enjoy....and congratulations!

Congratulation on finishing Chemo. Also congratulations to all those who responded who also are done or about to be done. To help reduce the anxiety, I prepared my Surveillance Plan. Researched the best approach to reduce recurrence: exercise, walking, and Tai Chi for both balance emotionally and physically....Eating a more plant based local diet...81 mg Aspirin, Vit. D, Calcium and prayer. Prayers for NED for each of you just finishing Chemo. Oh ya, I also started dealing with the effects of chemo...nueropathy.

Congratulations for getting through your treatment. I've been going through this for over five years and I still find it challenging. There are peaks and valleys on the journey.

I have been finished with treatment for two and a half weeks. I was very anxious the first few days and like rusuja, I have an anxious period after each phase of treatment, even a little
depression for a few days then so far I end up okay. My takedown is two weeks away so I'm gearing up for that.
Congratulations for being done!
