Need help pl.-Irinotecan cause you to sweat more?

Postby SunGold » Mon May 14, 2012 7:52 pm

DH started his new chemo with FOLFIRI+Erbitux, alongside a shot of B12 which he was v.low on. He was given benedryl and steroids before the infusion and seemed ok during infusion, except he sweat more than normal. After coming home , he's still sweating. Is this a side effect, anyone experience this?

Yep, sweating during infusion is a side effect. If you also get stomach rumblings etc. you can get the "diarrhea now" (instead of the 8 day special) side effect of Iri. I started sweating most of the time and got shots of atropine (I think) to calm things down, which worked.

Don't know about how long it persists...

Perhaps I sweated more after infusion anyway; I do remember foul-smelling chemo sweat on Oxi, smell less of a problem with Iri.. can't remember (the joys of hindsight ;)

I had the same issues for the first 4 infusions, but for the last 2 I have had no sweating problems. Go figure. They did offer atropine, but it was not available, due to a shortage. When I had the problems, I asked for ice packs, which did help. I applied them to the back of my neck.

I am currently on my 6th FOLFIRI treatment. I am given the atropine shot 30 minutes before irinotecan. This current treatment, for the first time, I had underarm sweating only during tretment and excessive saliva production that lasted into evening thankfully no diarhea issue yet. Lisa
