Yup we have had some discussions here on this topic, and I have been on daily 81 mg ASA since MY father had his heart attack in the 1980's. Didn't stop me from getting CRC but I am sure it has helped me from developing the cardiovascular problems which are my "heritage", and probably doesn't hurt to be on it with my Power Port to prevent clotting issues.
Just my situation, and I still take it.

CRguy! As it may not harm and could help, we are taking it. it's good to see the studies are building and building on this topic.

OK, but what does one do in a situation like I am in? I started taking a baby aspirin a day and after a couple of weeks was bruising worse than normal--and I already bruised very easily. I quit taking it, thinking my body was not liking it since I was bruising every time I did anything. Guess I should talk it over with a doctor.

Yet another piece of medical info to add to our discussion!
https://www.healthtap.com/user_question ... lon-cancer

Again, none of this information is obviously proven, but it is good to know that the research is growing.

I have been asked to participate in a drug trial to see if aspirin impacts on reoccurrence of colon cancer. It is a double blind study, so I won't know if I am receiving the aspirin or the placebo. I am not sure if I should participate or just assume that it would be better just to take aspirin believing it will help.

I am grateful to everyone who helps with this research. However, if it were me, I'd just take the aspirin, if only for the other benefits.

Another article. These stories really fascinate me.

Aspirin a 'no brainer' against cancer after screening
I'm just a dude who still can't believe he had a resection and went through chemo (currently 13 years NED). Is this real life?

I had used aspirin since childhood for an ache or pain so when chemo was over, 3 years ago, I began taking 2 full strength aspirin every day with my vitamins. I stopped it a few weeks before my recent liver resection (the tiny 'dot' took 38 months to grow to 1.5cm) and started back up as soon as I was given the okay after surgery.

Instead of signing up for a study, I'd take the aspirin!

Stage IV PET = 1.5cm liver met. HR 4/11/12

14 years since dx and 11 years post liver resection.

Because of my high blood pressure my primary care dr told me to take 1 low dose aspirin a few years ago. I took it every day till my oncologIst told me to stop because of the bleeding of the stool I was having. She wanted me to be able to take Avastin and all bleeding needed to stop. Aspirin is a blood thinner and can cause bleeding to not stop. So I haven't taken one for 3 months.

The aspirin debate is still not clear - studies are coming in about 50/50 on effective/not effective and the issue is that aspirin is NOT a smartie you can take with impunity - long-term use can have significant side effects up to and including (if only fairly rarely, but still a thousand a year here in Germany) death.

i was listening to an interview from a health pundit here whos just published a cancer book and his line is still that aspirirn is more trouble than its been proved worth.

Note that that latest BBC report says that aspirin would be harmless to take long-term IF the patients could be screened for stomach bleeding risks.

Im still on the fence. My onc says no along with enough others that its clearly not a silver bullet (yet).
