No liver resection *tears*

Postby Jack&KatiesMommy » Thu Mar 15, 2012 1:53 pm

Dr Curley opened me up for surgery and e found a dozens of small little tumors in my liver that did not show up on the CT scans....no resection for me. I am so sad....I can't bear the thought of leaving my babies without a Mommy.

It looks like your CEA went from 2,200 down to 50 and that's a good thing. Have you been on folfox? Perhaps that will work to get rid of the rest of them and then you'll have to do maintenance. I know this is like a bunch in the gut, but in a week or two it will be a little better to come to terms with.

Give yourself time to think this out and absorb it. Don't count yourself out yet.

Prayers and hugs!

Cynthia I am so sorry to hear this news. But as Terry said you may try Folfox and then you will be candidate for the surgery again. Do not give up hope yet. This is just a bump on you road.
I am sending your way big hug and prayers.

Agreed, not time to give up hope yet. There are also regional therapies like HAI pump that might work well for you in addition to chemos you haven't tried yet.

Dear Cynthia, not time to throw in the towel, you got some living to do yet!!! The others know more about it all than I do but I know there are other chemo cocktails you can try etc, must be able to do more for you. I know it's hard but you can do this.....stay strong and have hope....

We are not giving up on you! It's time for all those brilliant doctors at MDA to get busy and come up with PLAN B. I don't know if they do the HAI pump there, but they should still be able to tell you if you are a candidate for it.
I know you were expecting great things out of the surgery, and this must be a terrible shock. Please know that we're thinking about you and pulling for you.

I'm so sorry to hear this news, but many on here (including myself) can tell you about the time the doctors told us we were inoperable a few months before they ended up doing curative surgery on us! So, like the others have said it's time for the next plan. Bring it on!

Cynthia, I am very sorry your resection didn't go as planned; however, there is still SO MUCH HOPE. You haven't tried all the available treatments ... you may still become eligible for this resection after more chemo. There are others on this board who have been in your exact shoes and have made it through the hardship to reach NED.

Take some time to grieve for the disappointment then SNAP right out of the negativity and get your fighting gloves back on. Go research your other options. You are at the number one cancer center in the WORLD. They can offer you other options ... I am sure.

I am SO sorry. I agree that the hardest part of this whole disease is the torment of thinking about our children losing their parents. I agree with our friends here... It seems that we receive news which destroys all of our hope only to have a new plan restore that hope. I promise you, there will be a new and promising plan. It's ok if you need to have a sad day (we are shedding tears with you). But tomorrow is a new day, a new plan and you have to go back to fighting the beast for Jack and Katie.
You and your beautiful children are in my thoughts and prayers.

Cynthia,

There are no words for the thought of leaving young children. I'm very sorry you're going through this. When I was diagnosed in 2008 my children were the ages yours are now.

I wanted to say that, like you, I had many little liver tumors and was not operable. But my tumors did ultimately respond to folfox (and erbitux, I am KRAS wt), and I staggered my way to a liver resection. I hope you will too.

This is a truly hellish disease but you are not entirely without options. Please know that you are not without friends who understand at least some of your anguish, too. Good luck, chin up, and best wishes.
