Home from liver resection and ileo reversal

Postby StarGirl » Fri Mar 02, 2012 6:10 pm

Had my ileo reversed and then 50% of my liver removed a week ago. Would advise epidural--was my "first". I have the Mercedes scar (as Bev called it in another post). I am bloated up and had to pull out all of my big clothes for now. Worse thing is the lethargy and the commode trips. I had two wonderful surgeons--a true gift from God. Am cancer "free" and hope it continues that way--I will not be able to take any more chemo.

We are in a tornado path as I type this--hope any of you who are also "in the path" will remain safe and protected.

Congratulation, Star, and best wishes for a long and healthy, cancer-free life! Keep us posted on the ileo reversal. I am scheduled for March 22. I am really happy about it but also very anxious about my "new normal" after I lose the bag  Lots of new challenges for my colon, rectal stump, spincter (sp?)muscles, etc.

Hey, StarGirl, it sounds like we were released about the same time! I had double lung surgery + an ileo reversal. I had another surgery 3 months before that. It was an LAR + liver resection + HAI pump combo. So I know what you are going through!

How are you feeling now? I'm a bit bloated too - can't wait for all the excess fluid to leave my body! Are your bathroom trips becoming less frequent? Mine are cutting down already. I'm eating lots of yogurt to repopulate the good bacteria in my lower intestines and that seems to be helping a lot.

Hope you came through the tornado okay. Nothing like recovering from major surgery AND being in the path of a tornado to keep life exciting, right? I hope we both have uneventful and quick recoveries!

Hugs to you,
Julie

I am happy to hear you made it to the point surgery could happen for you. I hope you recover pretty quick and stay cancer free for a long time. Hang in there, i know the road traveled for you has not been the easiet with the dehydration and so forth.

StarGirl - congratulations on your successful surgery and best wishes for a speedy recovery.

I remember your evaluating pros/cons of liver resection despite no evidence of active disease ... I am curious did your liver tumor become active again? Is that why you decided for the liver resection? I would love to know what pathology will reveal about your liver lesion. Your case resonates with me as our original presentations and susequent treatments were very similar.

Hi StarGirl,

I just came home from my liver resection yesterday! I had the epidural as well and it was a godsent. Noone could believe how well I was doing the two days after but when day three hit...oh boy! I had a few painful days that I can barely remember but I am on the mend now:) Isn't it great to be home? I hope the tornadoes didn't get in the way of things too much.
