Hi Raym-That is good that you are getting this procedure done-It is a big surgery, but I think the benefits outweight the risks.
I had this done in December, and am doing good. Was back to work Mid-January - maybe a tad too soon,,,but I was ready. I have a desk job, so it wasn't a lot of moving around. I hope you have a job you can ease back into?
I did not have any spots along the mesentary area-but had them in the pelvic area, diaphragm, and lining on the liver. I think my surgery lasted 6 1/2 hours or so....and went well. I had no major complications. Just had some edema (gained 20+ pounds in water weight), and low WBC count due to the chemo that I absorbed into my bloodstream. I highly recommend it-if you do not have any other health issues that could be a problem. You look like a young guy that can definately stand this surgery.
There was a lady around 60 years that had this done a few weeks before me by the same surgeon, and as far as I know-did well also. Be sure to walk a lot-as with the colon resection surgery...your bowels will need to get moving again. And it's good for the healing process. But take it easy of course.
I wish you the best! And I look forward to hearing good news!
If you have any questions or anything please let me know.
I'm also curious to hear what your onc decides with chemo afterwards? My surgeon and onc both thought it'd be good
not to do any chemo after HIPEC, as I have no signs of cancer, and they wanted to give my body a rest, and use the chemo for the future if ever it came back. It's kind of scary to me not being on chemo,,,but I see their point. My next scan is 3/27-1st one since surgery.
