Elevated Liver enzymes??

My liver enzymes were elevated during the last 5 rounds of my twelve cycle regimen. I am about three months out from chemo and they are still elevated. Just got the information from my gyn dr. How long does it take for them to go down? I will call the oncologist tomorrow to let them know. I am not due to see them until the middle of March. Just wondering if someone else has experienced this and if they go down slowly or could it mean anything else? Thanks.

HI,

Are you talking about the CEA 19,9 antigen ? or other specific enzyme ? it you are refering to the 19,9 wich is your actual level?
Tell your onc about it, if you are worried. Each human being is different as my friend Sky told me always, but generally after chemo It is going down slowly ...
Ask yourself if you are taking other medicine...
Check the date of your last PET/Scan...

After 12 rounds of chemo, I would say that is difficult to see any mets in liver...

The best wishes for you

Fede.

It took a couple of months for my liver enzymes to return to normal post-chemo. I'd still follow up with your onc, but if your levels were elevated for a long time through chemo, it may just take a while. It's an expected effect of the meds. My onc advised me to be a little extra careful about taking Tylenol and suggested that I take it easy on alcohol for a while, too (not that I drink more than an occasional glass of wine these days, anyway).

I reduced my Liver enzymes by 100 points by doing several things. I take pain meds and I went to pure Oxycondon with NO Tylenol in it. And then I drink hot lemon water every morning, yes that works! There is a book to buy about Liver cleansing and the lemon water is just one of many ways to help and it works!

Funny Story about liver enzymes. Mine slowly went up during the end and after chemo. (Also As I gained weight after surgery). 18 months after I finished chemo they shot up. My AST and ALT were up in the 50s and 60's. I cried all wekkend thinking surely I had mets to the liver. My Oncologist said...we can repoeat and scan you. My primary said...try low fat diet and wait a month. After 3 weeks I had a repoeat that was back to normal. My primary said the AST and ALT are very sensitive to samples that may sit in the lab. So...Lab problem....Really?

My husband's liver enzymes were high through most of his Folfox treatments. It took a while afterward for them to get back to normal. They went back down slowly. His onc said this was pretty normal with the chemo. The high for his AST during chemo was 73 and ALT high was 151. It was about 6 months after his last treatment before they were in the normal ranges again.

My liver enzymes went way up when I went to a top-rated local doc and they messed up my chemo. But eating organic food helped it go down much faster.
