RFA for bone mets
I'm wondering if any other fellow Canadians have received RFA for mets to the bone? My husband has a spinal met on his sacrum and I'm trying to determine if such treatment is available here, esp. hoping for Ontario!
Husband dx 01/10 Stage IV
15+ liver mets + lymph nodes
02/10 Folfiri/Avastin/5 FU
08/11 NED chemo break
12/11 LAR surgery
01/12 Mets sacral lesion-5 rounds rad
02/12 ostomy reversed
04/12 Folfiri/Avastin/5 FU
06/13 Sacral lesion back-possible RFA

Maybe a bit of a sideways reply here but :
I will be researching the options for my father's mesothelioma palliation and meet with a Rad Onc in a couple of weeks. I know IMRT, SBRT and RFA are available for sure in Canada and one thoracic honcho is in BC. The head Onc for my father trained at Princess Margaret, so I would check them out for availability of Oncs and RFA access. Keep you in the loop if I find out anything else.

here is a quick reference for a series done at VGH in BC

Cheers and best wishes

Damn …….time flies !!!!
You are right … the lung met came out spring 2010 … SO spring 2015 is five years from met-ectomy !
(scans and Dx late fall of 2009 )

I just keep concentrating on 7 years from primary resection (2007) so I guess this means I get a do over on my FIVER !

There is a lot of useful information on this post. Some links to stuff on this earlier thread no longer work but this info is still very relevant. We should all try and update this info and keep it current.

Hey buddy,
That IS the issue with the internet … a lotta resources get moved and/or rewritten.
I know the Inspire Health pages have been updated by me 3-4 times and they are still changing !!!!!

Wish there was a better way :( ….. BUTT I have just checked all the links now today in this topic, and they are either updated or have a comment as to why they don't work. Let me know if you cannot find something.

BTW sent you another PM about the RV and would appreciate any input you have about it throwing tranny codes !!!!

Cheers

Canadian first: ultrasound used into a four-to-six month course of chemotherapy to determine whether treatment is working or not -instead of CT or PET scans (at the Sunnybrook, ON):

Cancer therapy tailored with ultrasound

I want to get the message out about a Colon Cancer Canada fundraising initiative that's going on right now.

It's called Top To Bottom and is spearheaded by 40 oncologists, surgeons and cancer researchers in Calgary, London, Ottawa, Toronto, Vancouver and Winnipeg. Their goal is to raise $750K to support initiatives in local colon cancer communities. To date, the campaign has raised close to $512K.

There are some great incentives to giving.

75% of the net funds raised stays in the community that raised it. Your area cancer team will use the funds to support their projects in your community.

There are some great rewards. For example, each contribution of $250 gets you a $50 gift card for the participating restaurant of your choice plus a $200 tax receipt. A donation of $500 gets you two gift cards and a tax receipt for $400. And so on. If you want, you can choose to forego the gift card and get a tax receipt for the whole amount. There are also options for making a corporate contribution.

So Canucks, click the link for the Top to Bottom website and then click on the community/team/doctor of your choice to make a donation. Credit card and Paypal options are available.

http://ccctoptobottom.ca/

All of these doctors are passionate about putting an end to colon cancer. They deserve our support.

In my case, I am going to line up with the Ottawa team. Now I have to decide which of the excellent participating restaurants to choose - Rare, Salt, or Fresco. What a dilemma!

Thanks for reading this, thanks in advance for responding, and Merry Christmas!

I had a good giggle when I saw the Ottawa card/poster for it. My surgeon (Dr Auer) looks perfect as always but my oncologist (Dr Asmis) is wearing super wrinkled scrubs and looks terrible. I'd say his 3rd child was just born a few days before! He normally is so put together. Anyway, worth the giggle :)

I did a small donation to the Vancouver team (the Eagle R/RCH team-my surgeon is there). You can give whatever you are able to. I think it is great that the 75% stays at your team's hospital(s). I donated and sent a private msg to surgeon and and said see you on surgery day. Lol She thanked me for my donation on surgery morning.
