Still in hospital - update

Postby Terry » Mon Jan 23, 2012 1:49 pm

Well, I'm still here. Doing much better and hoping to get out of here today. It's noon and no sign of the doc yet, I'm sure he'll be up eventually.

The staff have been really nice up here, can't complain about that for the "most" part. The food however  leaves a lot to be desired. I'm not a picky eater, but I guess when it comes to liquids I am. I can have broth; theirs is the worst broth I've ever had (salt free I'm sure). I can have cream of chicken, cream of mushroom and cream of tomato soup. I HATE tomato soup, always have. Two days ago they bought me tomato soup and I didn't make a big deal out of it and gagged it down, told the nurse I don't like it and she said it would be taken care of. Well, for lunch and dinner what did they bring me? Tomato soup:( YUCK! I also said I don't like white milk, ensure or cream of wheat or oatmeal. Those are the staples that have been on my tray. Just writing this I think, gosh I really am a picky eater;) Only with this weird type of diet. I had my daughter pick me up some cream of broccoli soup from subway last night and some spicey cream of corn chowder from the cafeteria today and those were really good. I just picked out the corn and didn't eat any large pieces of broccoli.

Changed my bag all by myself Saturday and have been emptying with no problem. I'm still kind of tired and since I don't have a computer can't check everything written from each of your lives. I'm stilll praying for each of you and hope you're doing well. My new screen came for my computer and my DH said he would get it on for me tonight and then I can get updated.

I pray you're all doing well.

Thanks for the cards and for the flowers Sweeny and Jaynee, I love them:)

You do sound great, Terry. Sorry about the food. I had some pretty gruesome cream of mushroom (or was it celery?) soup my second time in the hospital. Grossed the nurse right out (and this was the colorectal ward, so you know they deal with nasty stuff all the time). She said, "What's that?" "Cream of mushroom soup. Why, you want some?" "No thanks, I'm trying to cut down on cream of mushroom soup."

Terry you sound great! And the food does sound awful. I like cream of tomato; but since I gave up dairy I haven't had it. I suppose I could make it with soy milk. :?

I'm so impressed that you have already changed the bag by yourself! Congrats! When I first had my ileostomy back in 2007 it took me a week before I'd even LOOK at my abdomen. The first time I changed my bag by myself, I still made my husband be in the room with me because I was so scared. You are light years farther along than I was!

I hope you're home soon with better food and all the other comforts of home.

Terry,

Glad you're doing well. I'm sorry you're having to deal with those food issues :( I don't like ensure or white milk either, and the last few hospital stays when I've been on liquids only (when they finally let me have liquids, darn blockages) every single breakfast tray had both of them on it :( Hope you don't get any more of the stuff you don't like, and that you get out of there soon :)

Terry,
you are complaining, it means that you are must getting better. I am so sorry about the food. During my last hospital stay in MSKCC, the food was good, I was getting menu and I have been ordering my meals thru the phone, really nice thing.

Thank you for the update. Hope you get out of there soon and get some real food!
I'm just a dude who still can't believe he had a resection and went through chemo (currently 13 years NED). Is this real life?

Terry

Hope you are out of there and home soon! Thank goodness you were able to have something other than the "mystery" soups at the hospital
It's hard enough to have an appetitie without having to look at some of that stuff!

Prayers and best wishes are flying your way

Cheers and hugs
