Here in thd uk they have a tv programme called the food hospital , people with all kinds of illnesses inc blood pressure / diabeites , irritable bowel , cancer skin conditions and many other things go to the hospital and doctors diet experts and nutritional experts see if food / drink can help by putting these people to test and they send them home with a diet plan and they return 3 months later to see if there has been any improvement , I'm most if not all cases there were massive improvements , the week they focused on cancer they went to a big cancer centre and met with oncologists etc asking what was truth / myth in certain foods / drinks in supposedly fighting cancer , this was aired on tv about 2 months ago , they dismissed a few inc Red wine and a couple of others but they belived from previous study's ( not sure if this was on animals / humans ) the top 4 most potent against cancer were the products mentioned earlier . There are currently doing trials into potentially using in cancer treatment to see just how effective , the only problem with the tumeric is its not very easily absorbed into the bloodstream , they do say though if taken with black pepper if improves its efficiency .

Not to aggravate an already tense thread, but there's a lot of bogus maple syrup out there. Chemically, it's nearly identical to pure cane sugar, and I know that some unscrupulous and perhaps ignorant people sell jars of "maple syrup" that are merely cane sugar with some maple flavor mixed in. It's not an industry that's regulated like other foods would be, given the nature of how and where it's generally produced.

Speaking of laetrile, you could buy it in the form of "laetrile loaf" when I was a student at the University of Wisconsin in Madison back in the late '70s. The guy who sold it was in and out of jail, but at times you could walk right into his store and buy the stuff. I believe it was sourced out of Mexico.

Hi Jimswife,
That programme has been a real eye opener and I have altered a few elements in my diet. I know the use of "cure" is difficult but some alterations in diet can be benefical if done wisely.

Hi Jimswife,
I have to be honest I have tried some of their approaches as I feel I have developed a bit of IBS since my mum was diagnosed. ( stage 4 , she had 73% of her liver removed last June and they have taken great care of her and we are very grateful to them, she is 2 1/2 years since diagnosis and for that we are overjoyed)
I obtained the suppliment they recommended and I have been ten times better and putting much more considered thought into my families food. Can only be good.
I have been reading your journey. Sending you and your husband much love.

One of the things that you noted, tumeric has an ingredient (or is?) curcumin. If you do a search on curcumin and cancer you'll find a lot of ongoing studies about it's possible use for cancer.

Thanks guys.

Jimswife, we get that food programme here, too, very nice show.
Hopeful, last time I looked there wasn't too much about curcumin in humans. IIRC there was a study underway in Northern England with peri-operative curcumin...

Yes its curcumin , a ingredients that is present in tumeric , have any of you read anti cancer ? The book written
By the two time cancer survivor , he's also a physician/doctor ? A lot of that is based on diet / nutrition
/ stress management etc , all through the book hes continually mentions green tea tumeric and ginger . It's an excellent book , covers all aspects of cancer and as he tells his own personal story theres lots of great advice in it too .

Thanks stu , yes heathly diet , supllements etc can only help , surely can't do much harm ? I know people say there's no such thing as a cancer preventative / cure or whatever but surely a better choice in diet / lifestyle etc etc can only benefit your overall general Health if nothing else , we will certainly carry on with it now , will it help in the long run ? Who knows but certainly willing to try . We juice twice per day plus I add tumeric and fresh ginger to these , drink green tea in abundance , lots of fruit n veggies and my husband is walking or cycling about 10 miles per week at least . I'm not giving my husband green teas or supplements etc till after chemo just incase they interact with the chemo , also he's taking that cimetidine , again it's not proven but there's a lot written about its potential benefits in helping to prevent metatastic spread . Is your mum cancer free now that they have done the liver surgery stu ?

I think different strokes for different folks. Make sure it's safe (make sure baking soda and maple syrup are safe mixed together which I'm sure they are) and if you can handle the taste give it a try IF your onc. says it's O.K. You need to remember if your on active treatment there's certain drugs that can make your chemo uneffective (like tumeric with ironitecan). I personally think eat whatever you want in moderation, but try and eat a healthier diet, keep your stress level down, get enough sleep and some exercise is the best RX for cancer. Our cancer eventually even gets to use the chemo in a lot of us.

Good luck.

Yes he's not having anything that could possibly interact with chemo , only in taking the tumeric . never tried or heard of the maple syrup one ? Anythings worth a try i guess but like you say sometimes even chemo dosent work and that has been proven !!! Hope you are recovering well terry . What happens now after surgery ? More chemo ?

Well - since this thread has completely come off its original post rails...

Quoting, #1 (attributed): In the top right corner of the person's post that you want to quote is a little button that says "QUOTE." Click on it, and it opens a brand new reply window with the person's whole post formatted to be quoted.
Be nice and highlight/delete out any parts of the post that aren't needed for your reply. ;)

Quoting, #2 (not attributed): in the formatting bar over the new message window is a QUOTE button. Click it and it puts the quote code into your reply. Now copy what you want to quote from another post and paste it in between the start quote [ quote ] and end quote [ / quote ] tags.

Remember to use your quoting power only for good.

Love of My LIfe,
My heart breaks for you and your family. I agree with Gaelen. The Webinar on the emotional impact of Cancer was a tremendous help in understanding the emotional stages of getting to the point that your husband is at. Accepting "It is what it is". One must prepare for the worst but hope for the best and try to live each day together enjoying the time one has. When we love someone we want to do everything we can to try to "save" them. You have time to help your husband deal with the physical and emotional days ahead. He may feel better that together you have prepared a future where he sees you will be OK and you will find the courage and strength to be OK for him and for your family. Prayers for you and your family.
