Muscinous Tumors

Postby Guest » Thu Mar 16, 2006 10:03 am

Anyone here have liver mets consisting of muscinous tumors? After seeing a specialist, he advised to have a PET scan to determine if the cancer cells in this area were dormant or active. The results showed that chemotherapy killed a majority of the cancer cells, with only the outside edges of the tumors showing activity.
With this additional insight, I was provided the options of going to a lower dosage of chemotherapy, in addition to receiving treatment 3 days every 4-5 weeks instead of every other week. This afforded my body the opportunity to rebuild its immune system between breaks in treatment.

hi rochelle, thanks for the info and encouraging news. sounds like you have a good doctor. a few months ago, i told the doc i wanted to go off oxyliplatin, and just do avastin and the 5FU pump. he promised me the tumors would grow. four months later and 2 cat scans later, the tumors have not grown, and in fact one of then shrunk just a little, the first shrinkage i've had in almost 2 years since my last surgery. i believe my immume system has improved also. i've been thinking about telling him i want to have chemo every 3 weeks, instead of every 2 weeks. i'm sure he will protest, but i've learned doctors don't always know what's best, sometimes they just are stubborn about following established protocols.
