The thing I've learned about laxatives is 1.) You gotta be patient; 2.) It's cumulative; 3.) When the dam eventually breaks, look out!

Try to eat something solid--that might well stimulate your lower bowel into action. When I was your age, coffee and cigarettes always got the guts going. I don't recommend the cigs, but coffee might help, too.

I'm glad you saw the doc.

Well I took ex-lax last night and went to the bathroom this morning. My stomach feels better, but it still looks like I'm pregnant. I really don't know what in the world is going on with it. It starts to get big in my abdomen and goes from there, like a beer gut. I took more ex-lax tonight, maybe there's more in there I need to get out. And my stomach hurt like a BITCH earlier. I mean I couldn't do anything to get comfortable at all or do anything to help it. I ended up taken 10mg's of oxy and it finally got to feeling some better. This is really starting to get to me bad.

If I recall correctly someone else I knew that had sirt spheres had back pain after each treatment so maybe that's all it is. Hang in there, you can get though this.

That could be it, but I'm thinking it's just from my lack of not doing much. I broke 2 vertebrae in my back a few years ago and I've always had problems with it since then. I even had back problems before that happened, when I was a teenager.

If Miralax or Dulcolax doesn't kick in soon, the next option to consider would be a suppository. Not a happy thought, but it can get things moving when nothing else does. Call your onc later today if you are still miserable, see what other suggestions they have.

Does anybody think a Fleet enema might work?

Well I'm not really miserable, I did go to the bathroom good yesterday morning after taking dulcolax laxitive and taking one ex lax. Then I took another ex lax last night and it didn't cause the "explosions" like the combo of dulco and ex lax but I did go pretty good just a bit ago. I'm just wondering why in the world my stomach is sticking out like it is, my onc. seems to think it's constipation for sure. I woke up last night with my stomach hurting some, but not nearly as bad as it has. I swear it looks like I'm starting to get stretch marks from it though and I hate that! I wonder if the SIRT treatment could have anything to do with it being like that? But on a good note, I actually woke up this morning feeling good and now I feel better from going to the bathroom. Did I also add that I've been drinking a lot of muscle milk? I haven't had much of an appetite so I figured with that having 20 grams of protein and a lot of vitamins and minerals it would do me good. Wonder if that could be it?

Hi Patrick:

Does your onc think you might have some fluid build-up from your liver (ascites). That's probably not it, but you might want to ask. Maybe your liver is acting up a bit because of the spheres. Just a thought.

All the best to you, thinking of you always.

Hi Patrick,

I'd like to suggest that maybe you get a scan to see what's going on with your stomach instead of having your onc just surmise, if it hasn't changed by this point. After Stephen's SIRT, he had terrible back pain and a "nagging stomach pain" if I remember correctly...and just a few months later he had a perforated colon that they couldn't surgically repair because he was taking Avastin. He did develop ascites, but that was after his colon perforated while he was in the hospital about 3 months after his Sirt treatment...

This is probably overkill, and I thought a little while before I suggested this. Stephen's condition/situation was very different from yours, but I have always wondered about the Sir Spheres and some things that happened afterwards. From what I remember in our research, SIRT can have amazing results...but it's very hard on your digestive system. It's probably nothing so serious for you as it was for Stephen, but it wouldn't hurt to know exactly what you're dealing with.

I hope you're feeling better. :)

That scares me... a lot. My back has been killing me the past two days and my stomach still isn't right.

My wife, being a nurse, mixed me up a enema of milk and molasses the other day. Needless to say, it worked pretty good :D I am still stopped up though, I finally went to the bathroom a little while ago and I haven't taken any laxitives or anything besides stool softners. It wasn't a whole bunch that came out, but at least I went on my own. I know I'm just stopped up from taking so much pain medicine and just laying around though.

I went to the bathroom again a little while ago. It was the first time since yesterday morning, I usually go at least twice a day. It looked normal, until I wiped and the blood just kept coming off on the toilet paper. So I got down and looked and my stool just had streaks of blood all the way down it. That makes me think that it's having to pass by something and pick up the blood.
