I've never been tempted to get any tattoo anywhere on my body, but let me pledge, right here and for the record--that if I ever manage to beat this thing, I'll get a big, blue colorectal star put one one of my butt cheeks.

After feeling violated that first round of exams I told everyone that I would get an "Exit Only" road sign on my butt when this was all done. My father-in-law and brother all agreed to go with me, but said they'd pick their own design.

Still haven't gone though. Guess I realize that perhaps a classier design would be better.

I really like Beth's idea of having one of the radiation dots turned into a little star and think that I'll steal that idea to celebrate when this is all over (and get the other two dots removed at the same time).

I also feel like my ileostomy is just a huge body piercing. Makes a pierced belly button look wimpish!

I always wanted a tattoo but never found anything just right, until this beast! I got the celtic tree of life on my lower back (right about where one of the dots for radiation was). I did it to remind myself to be strong, grow but stay grounded and to choose life. I have been looking for another one, the star is an idea  !

If you are interested, her is a link (if it works) to what it looks like.

Hi Tammy, what a cool idea! I Don't have any tattoos but have always thought about gettting one, just a little one meaningful ya know!

I like the idea of a wee blue ribbon, and maybe a little butterfly flying above it. (Getting ideas here!!!!) Like a tribute to what you've been thru and something beautiful flying above it. I'd maybe go with down on the bottom right side of my stomach, or even (Owies this might hurt a bit!) At the bottom of my sternum? The wrist is a nice idea too. My best mate who was engaged to my late wee bro had one done of his name on her wrist. She said it did hurt a bit, but it's nice because its been done with his name facing her, but there for all to see as a tribute to him, yeah the wrist is a nice place for one too I think!

Can't wait to see the pics  .

I had always wanted to get a tattoo, but could never pick anything out. I did end up with a tattoo but not an interesting or artistic one. Its 3 dots, one on each hip and another on my lower abdomen, to guide the radiation txs. :? , I am a little bitter that my fisrt and only tattoo is from a tx :x

I thought about doing something with my rad tats, but I think I might just leave them alone. One of the reasons I love my tattoos is that they remind me of a snapshot of my life, and the rad tats are the same. Besides, I have a list of other tats that I want. :) I do like the idea of a colorectal related tat on my wrist.

I have been telling my friends and family that I plan to get four tattoos now that I have finished my third surgery this year.... since my abdomen looks like a map, I joke that I will have North, East, South, and West tattooed on my belly. Seriously though, I think that the blue ribbon or star would be very fitting.

And then put a video on youtube, so those of us who are too wimpy to get a tat can vicariously enjoy the experience.

My daughter just got a tattoo yesterday on her waist with the colon cancer ribbon with the words "Always Have Faith." My husband didn't know until she got home and of course he cried. I told her before she puts anything on her body to make sure it has some meaning because once it's on your body, it doesn't come off. I thought it was beautiful....

great idea! I have the "little red bird" from my cartoons tatooed over my shoulder where he can encourage me.
Whether you like the brown ribbon, the blue star, or an original, get a referral from a friend, or on yelp, for a good artist who will work with you to convert your design into a beautiful and well-sized tat!

Also make sure your tattoo artist uses individual ink wells. The ones that use shared ink wells are well known for sreading Hep C, the last thing any of us need on top of the cancer ordeal.

When I was first dxd and had lofty ideas of being cured  , I wanted to get a Blue Jay, hubby's name is Jay, perched on a Lily flower or the Fleur de Lis. Or a Blue Jay with a Lilli flower in its beak.

While I haven't gotten one for this yet (I have two tattoos non-CRC related), I still plan to. I even sent a photo of what I wanted to my tattoo artist...but then everything went wonky, had bunches of complications and surgeries, up-staged, etc etc. I think I've changed my mind with what I was going to do originally, so if you want, you can steal it. :)

Are you familiar with Vargas' Winged Victory painting circa WWII? Here is a link: http://shanikafinearts.com/works/182596/v1-winged-victory-by-alberto-vargas

I planned to get this, with the blue colorectal ribbon/star in place of the WWII star.

Since I went to Stage IV, I have other ideas now, since I am no longer "victorious" over cancer as a disease of the body.

I really like the colon cancer star, and think it would make an awesome tattoo. The inside of the wrist just might be the perfect place!
Got me thinking.......and I don't have to answer to anyone (not even the man who walked out on me because of my rectal cancer).
