I'm waiting for the insurance company to approve my treatment. I'll be interested in your update about the mapping.

Good luck

While I have not had SIRT, I do want to wish you much luck and success, it's been successful for other people here, I hope it is that way for you also.

Keep us posted on your progress.

I've been hearing about how bad it is... there was nothing to it, just a lot of waiting. By the time they took me back to do of, I was already out of it from zanex they gave me. Then once they started they gave me a sedative and I slept through the whole thing. My leg hurts and I'm tired, but besides that I'm fine.

Believe me when I say I do too. I've got a good feeling about it though. The tumor in my colon responded so well to radiation, so hopefully these stupid tumors in my liver will too. If it doesn't work... I don't know what's next... I refuse to give up though, I'm not going to let this out do me.

Hi Patrick,

The title of your post got my attention, and I wanted to respond about the SIRT. My husband had this last February. Although he passed away a few months later, I have to tell you that the Sir Spheres was the ONLY thing that ever helped his cancer. Stephen didn't respond to chemo; every single scan we had was more or less progression. SIRT cut back the tumors in his liver by a wide margin.

I will always wonder if we should have done this treatment sooner in the game. Even though the SS helped him, the cancer in other places was just too widespread by that time. The catch is that insurance wouldn't have approved SIRT before Stephen failed all the chemo regimes- so we didn't have that option in the beginning unless we could pay for it (which I'm sure by now you now how much this costs).

I remember Stephen telling me about the actual procedure. They flew the material in that morning - it was all very impressively timed - and Stephen said that he was amazed at the "glow" of the stuff being injected into him, the way the guys were all suited up in protection...everything. He came out more enthused and excited about what he watched than even worrying for a minute or two if it worked.

Best wishes and thoughts for you.

~Cindy

The reason I was a little nervous about the procedure was because I had talked to a guy that is my age that is having it done, he has already taken his first treatment. He said when they did his mapping that they didn't give him any sedative! I didn't know that until I messaged him yesterday after I had it done and told him that mine was a breeze. He said that it took them forever and he was in a pain a lot of the time. But like I said, they gave me the sedative when I got in there and then about 10 minutes later after I talked a little crazyness I was out of it lol. And my groin area does hurt a little bit, but not to where I can't walk around or anything. So for anyone that is going to have this done, don't be worried, there is nothing to it, just a longgg day at the hospital. I still don't know if I can have the treatment done or not, when they did the mapping they inserted a few beads, I don't think they were radioactive, just to see if they got into my liver, stomach, or went anywhere they weren't supposed to. I should hear back about that on Monday. But I do have a good feeling about this treatment and I've heard nothing but good things about it. And I'm just thinking since the tumor in my colorectal area responded so well to radiation that my liver will too.
