Newbie - Mona Monkey

Postby Mona6518 » Fri Feb 10, 2006 9:03 pm

I'm 37, diagnosed with colorectal cancer in Dec 05, surgery early Jan 06, and am getting ready to start Xeloda in a few days.

I had symptoms for at least 11 years (but it was what I considered normal for me). I went to see my GP in early Dec 05 when my 'normal' changed... that lead to a specialist, a colonoscopy and my surgery :)

I've been semi-lurking for a while so thought I would introduce myself :)

Hi Mona,

Welcome aboard! I finished a six month course of Xeloda back in September. Prior to that I was on oxiliplatin, 5fu, and lecovorian. Xeloda was a cake walk compared to those. I wish you good luck and if you have any questions let us know. There are a few other members in the middle of taking Xeloda on the board also.

God Bless,

Mary

Welcome

Hi Mona,
Welcome to the club! My symptoms persisted for over two year. Why mine was at Stage 1 is only a miracle. Tomorrow is my 7th anniversary of filling up the toilet with blood which really got my attention and got me to the ER and got me in for a colonscopy and got me in for surgery and got me my "cure". The most amazing thing about this site is the vast number of "youngsters" like yourself who are not suppose to get CRC this early. I was 49 which is the time we expect this to strike. Doctors have to consider CRC in their diagnosis for "kids" moreso than ever. Molly is to CRC as Lance Armstrong is to prostate cancer.
Remember, this is not a solo journey. You have the thoughts and prayers of us all. Best wishes and good health to you always!

Sincerely,
Terry
