Yeah, the rainbow/gay thing is a very specific six color band. If we did a somewhat different color band and a prominant pot of gold (funding) in the design somewhere, maybe it wouldn't be so easily confused with the gay rainbow. It wouldn't even have to be the crossed ribbon design.

BrokeButt Mountian? That has real possibilities.

ChooseHope.com has a rainbow colored ribbon cancer awareness car magnet, several multicolored "Together we can win" jewelry items, and a Holiday ornament with different colored ribbons and the words "One season, one hope, one cure" Looks like they beat us to it!

Oh yea. You can't go anywhere without seeing pink. I received a call from someone today wanting money for Breast Cancer research. I politely told her that I have my own cancers (colon, thyroid) which lead to a 15 minute conversation about more funding for all cancers!

Yea. Brokeass mountain -- that was too funny!!!!!

Bump! (hump rump trump whump ta dump dump dump)

OK I just saw something on the Colon Cancer Alliance website. Go to www.ccalliance.org and click on Advocacy.

There's a pie chart there that shows how much is spent on differnent kinds of cancer per death due to that cancer. Guess which one was WAY over the top? I know I said I'd quit whining when my Mom was diagnosed with breast cancer, and I don't mind that breast cancer gets the attention it deserves, but Mom having breast cancer doesn't make colon cancer go away. Money and research does. Mom understands. She's got a button with one booby that looks like an open eye and one that looks like a winking eye. It says "Symmetry is boring." I have my "Cover Your Butt" button and one that says "Colon Cancer is a pain in the Butt" We wear them together.

The point of the advocacy post on the CCA site was to say that more money needs to go into screening and prevention. I have no argument with that. I just noticed that the breast cancer slice of the pie IS just about the whole pie.

Sorry I've been "checked out" and only got into this post by page 4!

The whole CC arena is very segmented, that's part of the problem. There is no "one big player" in terms of promoting awareness, offering resources, rallying for colon cancer on the hill... S.G.K. is "it" for Breast Cancer.

If we talk about promoting March for CC stories, having running events, getting congress to wear blue ribbons - it would be terrific to try to run this through some organization that can build up resources and be respected.

You may know that I was in the NYT in a cover story for CC - that was great awareness. They found me through CCA, and a local chapter. I know CCA is trying to start more regional programs and build awareness. I don't think it matters WHERE it comes from, or WHICH organization.

I do know that CC is not "hip." I truly thought my article would bring about greater opportunities to talk about Colon Cancer and younger people being diagnosed. IT DID NOT! I, too, have tried to contact Oprah to do something on CC. I have tried to contact major cancer support groups to get involved with patient advocacy and CC, and received a "canned response." I would have thought that the NYT feature would open doors to share information.

I am not sure how it goes from here. I'd love to see an organization like CCA reach out with media events, regionally throughout the US.

I went to CVS on Saturday to bye some toothpaste and while walking down the holiday aisle I see this pink dog toy. It was a loofa dog (basically a long body with little tiny hands and feet
Jerry has one we call him arnie ( if anyone remembers the petsmart commercial where the hot dog has A toy as long as him they they have to replace it this is arnie) . Well to my surprise “arnie” was pink and had a pink ribbon on his chest for colon cancer awareness.
Boy was I mad where is the blue dogs toys my dog jerry would love a blue arnie or any colon cancer Themed dog toy ( a plush butt perhaps?)
Maybe I should buy jerry the pink dog and see if I can get the website for the company and ask them for blue toys
How about a blue star?

There was pink ribbon toilet paper in Safeway the other day. You'd think we could at least have the toilet paper!

Still it's up to us, the colorectal cancer advocates to make it happen. Breast cancer advocates worked hard for a long time to get the awareness they've got. It pisses me off that it works that way, one cancer at a time, but I guess it does, and we've got the "icky" one. No one wants to hear about the poopy one with the bags and pouches and rectums and things. The pretty pink one, the booby one with all the pretty celebrity ladies is SO much nicer.
