I had a CT in december after they removed my huge mass from my right ovary.. It showed no lesions/mets in either of my lungs or my liver!! Also all my lymph nodes and fluids were negative. I decided to do anothe rround of adjunct chemo even thought they declared me a complete resection???

Any whooo.. this is my worry..

Today i started having some pains off and on on my right side below my ribs. It is like directly on my side, not towards the abdomen. Do you think this could be liver pain?? I am freaking myself out for sure.. It doesn't hurt unless I push on it!!

For all of you with liver mets... do they hurt all the time?? Is that about the location of the liver?? I am freaking out..

Hi Kelley:

Here is the experience of a GIANT population of ONE. I had a huge metastatic tumor in my liver and never, ever had any pain at all from it. There are lots and lots of non-scary things that can give you pain in that part of your body. Have you been coughing a lot lately, by any chance?

Love, Bev

Well, add to Bev's one: I had over a dozen small lesions, each between 1 and 3 cm when I was first diagnosed. I had no pain whatsoever. I went to the doctor only for bowel changes and some slight fatigue.

My Dad has never had pain from his liver mets. The liver is very resiliant. It can have a lot of mess going on in it and not only is it not painful, it might not change your blood work for a good long time either. The liver finds a way to work around it's shortcomings.

Hi Kelley,

My pain in my liver is what alerted me and Dr's to my cancer. Pain in my upper right quadrant (under rib cage) and then referal pain under my collarbone. The pain went away when I started FOLFIRI and then started again when the FOLFIRI stopped working- extreme pain! Had difficulty lifting my leg etc. Unfortunately now I seem to get frequent liver pain esp. after I have eaten. My Ons says that it is slightly enlarged but 99% better than when dx'd. Unfortunately now too my spleen has swollen and caused pain on the left side in line with my liver- so I am well balanced when hunched over...I suppose might be better for my posture :) I hope that there is nothing growing on my spleen and is only swollen due to pressure from my liver....will have to wait till 8th April when I have my next CT scan-quite nervous

I hope your pain resolves and that is just gas....

I too have some pain in my side from time to time, but it doesn't make any sense to the doctors because the chemo has put a beating on my liver mets. They reduced in size a lottt last time I had a CT.

My liver 'pets' are pretty big, and I've never felt them bite me at all, not once. Could be constipation? I used to get pains in my shoulder when that happened to me...something called referred pain.

I too have multiple mets to my liver----they apparently like me because they aren't going anywhere and are growing. I haven't experienced any pain from them.

I've had 2 liver mets removed and had no pain or symptoms before hand. Best wishes.

Several weeks after my first surgery and I was diagnosed as Stage 2a, I had a week where I started experiencing what I thought was "hot flashes". I was sweating at the weirdest times and had very itchy skin. Several weeks later I had emergency surgery for adhesions and they discovered I had mets to my liver. Didn't have any pain, but now I know that the sweats and itching were signs of the mets popping up in my liver.

I doubt if the pain you are feeling is from your liver, I had liver mets and have had 2 liver resections, removing in total about 75% of it. I was having pain there as well and when I suggested to my liver surgeon that it was the mets causing the pain he, just laughed. He said that it is almost unheard of for any pain from liver tumours until they have caused the liver to fail, and then it's game over. He said it was probably being caused by my bowel, and he seems to have been right.
Good Luck.

Kelly, I had a similar pain and was freaked about liver mets, but it turned out to be my kidneys not draining properly. If it's been going on for some period of time, you should definitely talk to the Dr about it.
