Scar Creams

Postby seussfan » Mon Aug 27, 2007 7:20 pm

Has anyone used any of those scar creams that are out there? Is it worth using or is better to just let time go by and be patient? Parts of my scar are sooo dark. The three areas that kept getting infected (but are not fully healed - thank god) are a dark purpley color and I wondered about the creams... :?:

I have had over 13 surgeries (mostly orthopedic) resulting in some big, some small, some wide & some narrow scars. I tried some of those scar creams once and didn't feel that they did really anything.

I know it seems like it might take forever, but the scar will lighten on its own, first turning a lighter pink and eventually becoming almost whitish.

At night I have been putting some vitamin E on the scars and that seems to help. Also during the day I got some Mederma. They say to use it 3-4 times a day for 8 weeks. So it can take a while to see an improvement.

My scar was really dark for about a year. After a year it started to get lighter. It has been almost 2 years now and it is very light- just a little red in spots. I put Vitamin E on it every now and then. I think it just heals with time, like most things.

My scars on my leg are so wide and so long that I'd probably go through a jug of cream in a day  (about 2" wide both front and back of my leg extending from top of my hip to below my knee front and back as well). So...I just don't wear shorts in public because I don't want people staring at my deformity, and my swimming days are over unless we spring for a back-yard pool at some point, which I doubt. I'm learning to live with it  . Now...if only I could learn to live with my colostomy

Good luck to all of you dealing with this issue.
