Mets to liver. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

I've heard some docs say that one of most common symptom that we have mets to liver is that you would have a dramatic weight loss suddenly. Who can confirm it?

Thank You =)

I do not have mets to the liver, but I had a big wieght loss - which I was told is a symptom of colon cancer. I was a size 8 a year ago, and by this February, I was a size 2 (still am). I chalked it up to my new job promotion and working instead of eating - wish I knew then what I know now.

As far as it being symptomatic of liver mets, I have never heard that. But I know someone here who knows more could answer that.

Most of my symptoms and weight loss began Sep 06. I was diagnosed Stage IV with mets to liver Feb 07 and had lost 30 pounds without trying by that point. After surgery for a perforated bowel in Apr 07, basically 2 weeks with no solid food, I lost another 7 pounds. I am slowly putting the weight back on.

I'm not sure how much had to do with the mets, as I was very bloated and had difficulty eating more than a few bites at a time even though I was very hungry.

hi,
it depends on how advanced the mets are on the liver. i had 3 mets and no symptoms of colon cancer. i had no idea i had a stage 4 cancer or that anything was wrong with me.

My husband lost 30 lbs before being dx late stage IV. His liver met was so large that every time he ate his stomach pushed against his liver causing him to feel bad after every meal. His weight lost came from eating less to avoid misery. Didn't take long for chemo to shrink the tumor enough to make that horrible feeling go away and he put the weight back on in a few months.

it depends on how advanced the cancer is when it is found. my doc said there are different stages of stage 4 if that makes sense. some peoples mets are luckily caught early and can be resected while others don't know they have them until symptoms appear. this is a sneaky cancer for sure, i just wish they would come up with a cure soon.

I never lost any weight or had any symptoms that the cancer had spread to my liver. It showed up in a routine cat scan. It was pretty big too! Golf ball size the Liver Surgeon said. After the surgery I didn’t loose any weight either. I am on steroids for lupus so this might have something to do with it.

I have liver mets. I never lost any weight leading up to the DX.

After surgery, I had trouble eating - I was also starting radiation and chemo at the same time, so I lost about 30 pounds over the first two months after DX - but, I've since gained this back.

Between Sept/05 - Feb/06 lost 5lbs. Diagnosed with liver mets in Feb/2006. Lost 25lbs in 3 weeks after surgery. By Sept/2006 gained most of my weight. Now I am 10lbs heavier than what I was before surgery. Blame it on the steroids and chemo. Weight has been the same for the past 4 months.

Has your blood results changed since you have started Avemar? Mine did for the better!

my CEA has continued to move down - it's now .8 - but it was moving down before I started the Avemar, so I can't say if Avemar helped that one way or another.

My blood counts, which have remained steady at the low end of normal for most of my treatments did move up in the after about 3 weeks of taking the avemar, so I wonder if that might be a result of the avemar.

in any case, I ordered another month and am going to keep taking it for a while. figured it can't hurt
