I just had my surgery two weeks ago and agree with the above. Soft cooked vegetables for right now, was what my surgeon told me. Although now after two weeks, I just finished eating Garlic Chicken which had brocolli in it and so I believe that I am on the road to recovery. Yesterday I had a chicken tacos (soft corn tortillas) with Avocado- lunch out, and that went down really well. Avocado, guacamolie are good for you and soft too.
I will say that my frequency of restroom visits has gone up a lot, and in the beginning, they were really loose, but eating the Kaisha(sp) 7-Grain Waffles every morning, or whole grain bread with my peanutbutter and jelly sandwiches, high fiber cereal for breakfast, etc.. as part of my meals, really helps keep me regular.
I lost weight from the surgery and am intent on putting it back on before chemo starts. One thing that seems to be helping, is that I got some protein powder, and I mix it into a glass of Silk soymilk, which I drink as a snack between meals. I would avoid the Boost and Ensure because there is so much sugar in those, compared to the powder+(milk or soymilk).
I also went to an Asian Grocery store and picked up Ito En brand Green Tea, which they sell in 2 liter bottles. The stuff tastes great and there is no sugar or carbs in it, and has 130% Vit C too. I mean, it aint no Coca Cola, but those days are over for me and I accept that. Actually, the caffine from coke and coffee etc, seems to speed up my metabolism and make me run more often to the restroom, so Im avoiding caffine for right now.
Hope this helps
